    Morning all :j

Thanks for starting the thread Maria :)

    For me today -
    So far:
Checked banks - got £18 payment from Quidco :T
Got brother, who is still staying, to replace the light fitting / shaver point in the main bathroom, as it didn't work. He always stays a bit too long to be honest (been here since the 22nd, not going back till Sunday 4th ), so I make the most of it and try to find him some jobs (he is an electrician). I was ready for this, having bought a new fitting before Christmas :D
Cleared up mess in bathroom after brother finished
Wash on, hopefully it can go out once done. If not, it will go on the airer (I don't own a tumble drier, so that is the only option :))

    Still to do:
Pop to Waitrose as I need some veg. I would go to Lidl normally but something tells me it will be full of people filling multiple trolleys again as it is New Years Eve  Waitrose will be quieter, and their carrots will hardly break the bank! Done, big bag of carrots 60p, big bag of parsnips 60p, savoy cabbage 80p
Apart from veg, meals from stores. I have taken a small piece of lamb out of the freezer for dinner, and will make the most of it with roast potatoes etc. Plenty of cheese etc left for lunch! Lamb was lovely :)
Sort out and declutter an annoying drawer that won't shut again when I have opened it Still not done this :o
Think about a suitable birthday present for an old friend - I have lots of birthdays in the early part of the year  Or this
Not going anywhere tonight, just curl up in front of the woodburner. Wish humans could hibernate :rotfl: Might have a glass of wine, might not, but unlikely to be able to stay awake till 12  Yes, nice and warm here :D Must get up and do the washing up in a minute though

Hope everyone has a good day :)
    Happy New Year everybody :D

Still cold and icy here, woke up this morning with shocking earache and sore throat so have done almost nothing (watching tv and the birds and squirrels scampering round the garden), ironed a couple of things we need for later as we are out this afternoon bowling and then a meal with step-daughter, then I have a feeling we may be in bed early. No big plans for today, just aiming to stay positive and upbeat (despite not feeling it):

    Check Banks -
    Check swapits -
    Prep new Calendar -
Watch TV or DVD's from cupboard -
Read (a few new books for Christmas) -
Re-list couple of things on FB -
    Enter a few comps -
    All meals from cupboards/fridge/freezer -

    Hi all

I'm working from home today so again saved on some fuel.

I need to get my horse some carrots but it's £1.95 for over 5kg worth from the feed merchants so I'll nip there at lunch time.

Otherwise it should be a no spend day!
  • Just bought You Need A Budget v4 budgeting software via Steam website for £7.49 :). I'd budgeted for £22.45 (full price less 25%) so buying it for £7.49 has saved me £14.96 already! :T:T.

I found opening a separate Steam account a bit of a faff but got it installed eventually.

I've also captured the activation key from within YNAB so has anyone any experience of installing a non-Steam version and using activation key? - I'm slightly concerned about only being able to access YNAB via Steam :(.

Not going out tonight as personally find New Years Eve vastly overrated and myself and OH still recoverng from bad colds / chest infections over Christmas :(.

    A Happy 2015 to all DFW'ers and MSE'ers :):T
    DFW'er - Lightbulb moment : 31st July 2009 - £18,499

Demolishing my House of Debt.. one brick at a time!! :)
    Thinking of spending???..YNAB says "NO!!!!"

    Hello Frugal Friends,
Useful day here on the money saving front:
*Rubber turkey shenanigans. It fed 5 yesterday & I'm halfway through making a turkey, ham & leek pie for tonight, plus an extra pie base for freezer, a big pan of turkey chilli (fab W.I recipe which I make every year) & lots of soup. I've also done a tray of turkey breast slices in gravy & the carcass is simmering away in the cauldron for the best stock of the year.
*Leftovers for lunch with a lovely onion-relish topped whole baked Camembert which Mr f found in the Co-op yellowstickered at £1. Its one of the ones in the pottery dish, so free new cat bowl too.
*No downstairs heating on yet. Have used it a lot over the last couple of days so trying to cut it back to normal.
*Filled my toiletries stash basket with all the lovely things I received as gifts. Enough to keep me fragrant & moisturised for ages.
*Cat enjoyed another bowlful of poached giblets & meat from the turkey neck which he loved, so a cat food pouch saved there.
*Gin soaked fruit from my blackberry & apple gin removed from freezer to eat tonight with ice-cream.
We're not going out tonight. I always used to, when I was footloose & fancy free but I never really found that the night lived up to its promise......usually end up hungover, snogging some loser, feeling sick or all three! I also find 'Auld lang syne' so depressing, it just makes me want to stick a box over my head & sit in the shed crying till Jan 2nd! So, we'll have a nice home cooked meal, bottle of cava & a film in front of the fire with all our festive twinkly lights on.. Whatever you are all doing, have a great night & stay safe.
    Love f xx
2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
    2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!
