Santander Default's - Can they be removed

Hi All,

Approx 2 years ago I was planning on switching banks to Santander. I opened an account but was subsequently refused an overdraft. As I had an overdraft facility with Barclays I decided to stay with Barclays.

A few months after opening the Santander account, I moved house. Having totally forgotten I had opened a Santander account, I did not update my new address with them. A few years later I checked my credit report, this showed I was overdrawn by ~700 quid. It also showed > 12 months of default notices

When I spoke to Santander they informed me that the account I opened had a minimum monthly deposit amount of £500. As I had not met this they fined me £5.00, they then fined me for going overdrawn many months in a row.

I had never actually used the account, after many phone calls arguing my case they agreed to wipe the debt off, as a gesture of goodwill, as they could see it seemed to be a genuine error "on my part". My credit file has been updated to reflect the fact the debt is settled

Now I understand that I signed the agreement when opening the account, however, the salesman never explained to me that there was a minimum monthly deposit. I also understand I am at fault for not changing my address with the bank.

So to my question.... Can anyone comment on whether its worth me trying to persuade them to remove the default notice either via an emotional plea, or by contacting the ombudsman?

The defaults are really dragging my credit score down.

Apologies for the verboseness of this post, just wanted to get the facts down.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Many Thanks,
Nathan
