Getting to grips with boiler/tank setup
Options
Every home I've lived in has had a combi-boiler, so over the years I 'got' them (well, they're pretty easy!). But, we've just moved into a home with a standard boiler tank setup, and just need some pointers on how I should be using it to best effect.
My setup looks to be fairly new, with a Worcester Greenstar boiler, with a simple on/off dial, and single temp (I assume) dial.
I have a digital Honeywell control panel, which gives controls of heating and hot water on separate timers. Both are currently set to AUTO, and both give options such as 'Extra Hour' & 'Override' (the Extra Hour button for heating has become by best friend so far)
I have a large hot water tank with an immersion heater - this is turned off.
There is a pump connected for the shower
downstairs, there is then the simple thermostat dial (which buzzes from time to time - not had that before!), and most of the radiators have TRV's fitted.
The house is a 1990's 3 bed detached. There are 2 adults & 2 children in the property.
So far, the heating on auto has been ok - with the occasional 'Extra Hour' Boost - but it's been a cold few days. For hot water, we've again mostly always had hot water, but on occasions, there's been little / no hot water - so I'm particularly keen to understand how the hot water side works - when does it expect me to need hot water? Is this again timer based - so should shcedule for an hour before I need it in the morning, and an hour before the kids bath time? And then use 'extra hour' if we're running late to keep it warm?
Any other tips on how we should use this setup to its best?
