Issues with heating in new build flat

Options
Hello,

I bought a new build (conversion) flat in February of this year, and have noticed since the weather is cold (freezing today) that the central heating is failing to reach the temperature I set it to (21, it only reaches 16). The radiator is hot, so there is no issue there. As a new build the flat comes with a 10 year guarantee- does anyone happen to know if inadequate heating would be covered by this?

Will obviously look more thoroughly into my documentation at the weekend, I was just curious to know if anyone had been in the same boat?

Thanks!

Your radiator, do you mean there is only one radiator in the whole flat? How big is the flat?

Is it on Economy 7? A storage heater?
  • Could be lack of insulation or too small a boiler. I know you said it is a new build conversion but that doesn't always mean it has been insulated even though it should be.

With a new build you should have a sap EPC, these are done off plan so will show what insulation heating etc should be there. This will also show the heat demand of the flat. From this you can. Work out what size boiler you should have and if it is adiquate

What sort of heating have you got. Has it got a boiler, radiators, thermostatic valves etc. How long are you running it for. If you've got TRV's are they open. Is the boiler temperature high enough. Where are the radiators, what make is the boiler, have you got a time switch/programmer. How hot is the radiator, where is it, how many. What size rooms have you got.

Where is the room stat - if it's close to a source of heat it will shut down before the room is warm enough. Lots more info on what system you've got would help get an answer.

as said, maybe the boiler temperature needs turning up
  • Wow, lots of things I hadn't considered! Thanks, everyone. I'll look at increasing the boiler temperature and go from there. Is there a recommended maximum temperature or anything else I should be aware of?

I think this is your manual:

You might need to adjust the range. Perhaps someone who has this make/model of boiler can advise. My boiler is old generation with a simple 0 to 6 dial.

Just a thought, if its a conversion, are the radiators the correct size, a small rad may get "hot" but if its undersized it wont have enough surface area to radiate heat for the size of room
