Hotel changed by supplier

Booked, paid for and received a confirmation for a hotel through bravofly. They have contacted me since and have informed me that the hotel is no longer available and that I need to chose another hotel. They have given me a list ranging from same price to a price increase. Where do I stand with this especially since I have a confirmation for the original hotel?

It's known in the industry as a "book out" (or a "walk" in the USA) and could happen for a number of genuine reasons, such as hotel overbooked, closed down, supplier error (not necessarily Bravofly, if they are using other intermediaries), issues with room allocations etc. None of which is your problem, just wanted to give you context that it does happen in the hotel business, pretty much every day, and doesn't necessarily mean something sinister is happening.
Normal procedure (not necessarily law) would be to try and offer you something in similar category and location, where this is possible. Are the alternatives reasonable? It's less usual to ask you to pay more, unless the alternative would be a substantial upgrade, and you could have had something similar to the original without paying more. If the alternatives are genuinely unsuitable, you might be able to get some compensation (discount), but it's not an automatic right and if the supplier doesn't agree you could have to go to court to get it.
Where and roughly when is it, and how many nights stay? Also, does the original confirmation say anywhere on it something like "booked and payable by XXX"? That would usually indicate that your supplier was using a third party to make the reservation (quite common practice in the industry).0 -
If the alternatives are no good then you may be able to ask for a refund of the hotel portion of the booking and use the money to book something more suitable elsewhere (maybe even the original hotel?)
It's worth asking anyway.0 -
They have given me a suitable alternative but I know the area in ANDORRA and don't really fancy it and would prefer the area that a more expensive hotel is in. It's 50euro difference which I suppose isn't much but I'm just disappointed that I need to pay the extra to stay a couple of doors down from original booked hotel0

Don't know how close you are to travel, but if you have time you could try pushing back and saying the location is important to you and you don't see why you should pay more. If it is the fault of the hotel or another supplier rather than Bravofly, they might try and push them to pay for it. Worth a try anyway, you have been inconvenienced.0
