What's happening to my wifi connection?

Hi I bought a Lenovo A8-50 Tablet a few months ago. It has refused to connect to my wifi for longer than 7 minutes at a time and has made watching videos impossible... This seems to be a fairly common problem with the Lenovo.

I have an old TP link access point TL-WA701ND that I set up to get an internet connection to my Youview box.
Since setting up the access point I have had a faultless connection to my tablet.
Has my tablet now picked up the wireless signal from the access point? How would I find out?
If so how do I know what signal my laptop is connected to?
