Abbey fraud

Hello
I hope that this is a small scale crime and others have not been effected. My multi function card from the Abbey expired at the end of June. I never received a replacement, and was told that there had been a problem with the new cards at a local branch. There had also been a postal strike.
I cancelled the card and ordered a new one. This card was issued on the 16th of July with a new pin. I never received these and by sheer luck queried this on the 20th of July. I was told that I had cancelled my old card on the 16th but a new one had not been ordered. A new card and pin was then issued to me on the 21st.
On the 23rd and 24th of July three attempts were made to take money from my account with my new card and pin, one successful, using cash machines in England and Poland. After many 0845 phone calls I managed to establish that the card used was one issued on the 16th and cancelled on the 21st. This meant that I can hold the bank accountable.
I was lucky that the criminals first attempt to draw out money was made on a cash machine that charged £1.78, they had attempted to take the maximum £300 out in one go and this fee caused it to fail to be authorised. They did get half this amount on their next attempt.
I am very suspicious that Abbey were the breach of my security as the card only took five working days between issue and use, although they insist that both card and pin were intercepted via the post. If this is the case I am concerned that a bunch of criminals have my address as well as my banking details. I would welcome any advice to help protect myself and would be interested to know if other Abbey customers have been targeted.

Well I'm STILL waitin for my card and it runs out end of July. I have called Abbey twicw so far to be told that their systems were down I'm going to withdraw all my money today as I won't have anything to live on.
This is just no good from Abbey. Please do not feed the Trolls!0 -
Card and Pin are normally sent separately, otherwise it would be a gift to any fraudster. Have Abbey explained how both could have bee intercepted in the post by the same person or persons? This sounds like an inside job to me."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

I've had pin numbers and new cards delivered in the same post on at least 3 occasions.
OH had his card cloned about 6 weeks ago and the new replacement card and new pin turned up in the same post.

Hi, I am in the same position in that my card runs out tomorrow. Have called Abbey numerous times and been told several stories/lies and been stonewalled completely in the branch. I don't have photo id so am stuffed. I have taken what cash I do have out but they have been less than helpful and no apology is forthcoming - they just couldn't care less.
Any suggestions anyone?0 -
I have had suspicions about Abbey's approach to security since they sold my contact details to marketing companies and then denied it! My Mum was a guarantor on our mortgage, so her name and address was on the account. Within a month of obtaining the mortgage, she started receiving mail for my OH, who has never lived at her address. There was no other potential source of the leak but Abbey, who refused point blank to even enter into a discussion about it, but I was very wary about dealing with them apart from in the branch, and ended up closing all my accounts with them when they couldn't guarantee my personal security!0

Thanks for replies. Abbey just said the problem is the post. After another hour of my life spent on the phone I have learnt that my card was not cancelled on the 21st, but the 27th. I would advise having your card sent to your local branch. What makes me laugh is that they ask me everytime I call if I made the withdrawal, I think it is in the hope that I say yes and they can go "Aha" and close the case. I wish you better luck than I am having.
