Have no idea about gas please help

Options
Hi,

I hope you can help, I moved into a new build property at the end of August and it has both gas and electricity. This is the first time that I have had gas and due to various reasons scottish power (my provider) have been unable to issue a bill and will take another 10working days or so.

so I have no idea whether I have been using lots of gas or not.

Since the end of august I have used 57 units of gas, is this a low amount or a high amount?

I have been putting the heating on but only in small amounts as have no idea how much it is costing me currently.

Thank you for your help xx

If it is m3 it is a low amount. From the 17th Sept until the 17 Dec I have used 430 m3 units of gas
over 73 but not over the hill.
  • I use 3.5 units (cubic metres) a day but it is a big house.

  • If cubic metres on an average tariff (without knowing the calorific value or correction factor), I would think it's around £100 to £110. If you know your tariff (unit rate and standing charge) I could probably get it closer.

One metric meter unit costs about 50p. One imperial meter unit costs about £1.40.

Plus less than £8 per month standing charge.

My tariff works out at approx £1.10 p per single unit used on a non metric meter .

Do you not have online access to your account ??
  • bookworm_nat123 - Gas is cheaper per kwh than electricity if you were wondering, so a given amount of heat will cost you less than you may have previously been used to. My own supplier charges me 11p a kwh for electricity and 3.5p a kwh for gas as an example.

I do yes but there are no bills on there as it says it cant calculate currently as there is no consumption. Scottish Power have sorted this I think but will take 10working days to show up.

  • thank you for your help :) xx
  • Nov 15 is quite a decent tariff.

    Say 120 days (4 months) @ 32.62ppd = £39.14

    57m3 x 1.02264 (correction factor) x 39 (calorific value)/3.6 (covert to kWh)=631 kWh

    631 x 3.2p (tariff) = £20.20

    =£59.34 + VAT = £62.31

A lot of presumptions here but it shouldn't be far out if you have a m3 meter.
