Renting Property to Parent

Hi,
Me and my sister recently purchased a house to rent and have an existing tenant, who has been with us for just over 6 months now.
Our Father rents a flat in another area and has done so for several years, receiving housing benefit I believe.
My parents are divorced and have been for over 10 years. Me and my sister want to rent our property to our Father - would there be any issues with this? Would we legally be allowed to receive housing benefit he receives to cover our mortgage?
We do not live at the residence at all.
Thank you for your help!

You can as long as the council don't consider it to be a contrived tenancy i.e. would you be willing to evict your father if he fell into arrears or breached some other term of the tenancy agreement.
The fact that you currently let the property out should make it look a bit more like a proper tenancy although I can't imagine your current tenant is going to be happy about moving after living in the property for such a short time.0
