zenith insurance confusing information

hope somebody could help, my daughter had a car accident on halloween, to which a lady drove into the side of her, the lady admitted fault(she just revered straight into my daughter),my daughter then reported this to zenith her insurance company, who took all the details and said your car will be written off, they then said we will be intouch... 3 weeks had passed heard nothing so rang zenith who said there underwritters are dealing with it, and gave another phone number, rang them they said they don't have any details, so we gave them all again, another week passed still no news so rang again to be told you have to submit all info by email!!!, so we did that, in the mean time the ladys insurance company rang and asked what is going on as they have not heard anything! so we kept ringing every week, seemed like they were just trying to fob us off asking for more info!we already gave them everything! so yesterday rang again... to be told there's nothing they can do because she is third party fire and theft and then said it states notification only!! what the hell is that all about.... sorry about long post

Your post is a little unclear.

But if Zenith is your daughter's insurer, and she is only covered for third party damage, then they won't be interested in her damaged/written off car.

She needs to pursue the other driver's insurer over this.
  • sorry about the post being alittle unclear, it's so confusing, but i thought that's what was going to happen that her insurance company would put a claim through on the other party's insurance.. is that not how it works? do we have to contact the ladys insurance company ourselves?? it's a mine boggoling thing

Yes - your daughter only took out cover for any damage done by her to other people's property, and has no insurance cover for any damage t her own car.

She does need to pursue the other side's insurer.

(If she took out any uninsured loss cover or "legal cover" with her policy then that can be used, otherwise she can consider using an accident management company or doing it herself)

Next time she renews her policy she should consider getting comprehensive cover (which does cover damage to your own car), which is often as cheap or cheaper than the TPFT cover she now has.
  • ok thanks, she does have motor legal protection, is that legal cover? so would we just contact the ladys insurance and deal with it ourselves, sorry about the questions, having a mind blip....

If this is as clear cut as you say, then contacting the driver's insurance may be straightforward. She should ask to speak to the innocent third party claims dept.

If she gets into any hassle then use the legal protection or a claim handler/accident management company.

If her car is not roadworthy and she needs transport now till this is sorted, she should ask the third party to supply her a replacement hire car (at their expense). Again if there is any hassle tell them she will put the claim in the hands of an accident management company (who should arrange a car for her at the expense of the other side)
