Change touchpad area in Windows 8

I know this isn't likely but it can't hurt to ask. I've just got a new laptop and the manufacturers have inexplicably not separated the 'mouse' buttons from the touchpad, meaning if you press either of the buttons and your finger moves as you do so, the cursor shifts and you often find yourself missing the target of your click.

I'd like to be able to reduce the area of the touchpad so that the bottom, say, 20% of the touchpad (roughly the area of the buttons) is unresponsive and does not behave as a touchpad. Is that possible somehow? I don't mind installing software in the unlikely event someone's created something that can deal with this.

Thanks.

Acer Aspire ES1-311; it also says 'Aspire E 13' on it. This one:

First thing I did was remove all the Acer bloatware so if one of their programs can help I'll have to reinstall it.

Pesonally, I would disable it and get a wireless mouse....I don't like touchpads..;) You can disable it by pressing FN key an F7 simultaneously and turn it back on with the same keys.

Not sure if the Acer has it's own programme, but you can reduce the sensitivity in the Control Panel....Which may help.
    1. 1 Turn on the computer and log into Windows as normal. Open the "Start" menu and click on the option labelled "Control Panel."
    2. 2 Double-click on the icon labelled "Mouse.". The "Mouse Properties" window will open. Navigate to the tab labelled "Device Settings." Click on the button labelled "Settings." A window labelled "Properties" will appear.
    3. 3 Examine the left panel of the "Properties" window and expand the option labelled "Sensitivity." Click on the option labelled "Touch Sensitivity."
    4. 4 Reduce the touch sensitivity setting by moving the slider to the right, towards the "Heavy Touch" label. Experiment with different levels of sensitivity until you find one suited to your needs.
    5. 5 Click on the button labelled "OK" to close the "Properties" window; repeat with the "Mouse" control panel. Your new touchpad sensitivity settings are now saved.
