O/S Daily Tuesday 30th December 2014

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

    Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

Still dark, but looks very cold and frosty.

DH and myself up and enjoying first peaceful cuppas, I’ve just eaten my brekkie also. DS1 and DS2 still in their pits.

Dinner last night was omelettes, salad and chips for the menfolk, I had just omelette and salad, feel so much better for cutting back on the rich food – my body just can’t tolerate it anymore. Tonight will be spag bol, unless I can think of anything else but I didn’t get any meat out to defrost so choice is very limited.

Work was surprisingly busy yesterday, but was good as it made the day fly past. We’ll have to wait and see what today brings.

Menfolk were reasonably productive whilst I was at work, caravan was taken in for a service that we’d booked ages ago, xmas decs all taken down, packed away and back in the loft, DH went in to town to visit the bank to do a little job, hoover ran over lounge, and washing put in dryer. DH now sorting all his paperwork that’s been sitting in a pile for ages, some needs keeping, some needs shredding – I need it not to be not in piles round my house! So realistically not a bad day.

Also got my car back all mended last night, the front brakes were binding especially on 1 side, so they’ve all been sorted now and didn’t cost anywhere near what I’d feared – so am so much more settled and less worried.

    Take care x

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning :santa2:

rubiesr4eva I have an enamel bath, I use a squirt of washing up liquid to clean it but occasionally it needs a good scrub so I use washing powder and a scourer. Never a new scourer, I think it's a bit too scratchy – I use one that's been demoted from the kitchen :D

It's very frosty here today, with the added bonus of fog, lol

I've rearranged, tidied and cleaned. All I have to do is wash one load of towels and write a shopping list, then the day is mine :D It's going to be a list day, I need to focus a bit more on things rather than rushing through them so I'm going to organise myself a bit more.

    Good morning everyone

Brrrr, it's cold here this morning. Poor evil cat turned up for his breakfast and then dived upstairs to get into bed with DD14.

I'm going to get in touch with one of my friends this morning to see if she would like a coffee. Hopefully she will come here for a break from her lovely but poorly daughters. They have ME and are practically bed bound at the moment so my friend is up and down the stairs all day checking on them and bringing them food and drink. They both normally sleep for most of the morning so hopefully she will get to come here and have someone make her a drink.

I am still on a mission to eat out of our freezers and cupboards so today I am going to make macaroni cheese but with a packet of spaghetti and I have some elderly pepperoni to pop on top and I will have a turkey chilli I made at the beginning of the month and then froze. If I keep chipping away I should see the bottom of the freezers by March!

That's all from me today, thinking of Hester's DD, hope it went well yesterday. Keep warm and have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx
  • Morning one and all. Hope all turned out well Hester. I am shuffling around on tiptoe this morning as the 3 DGDs are all still asleep and don't want to waken them! They were all late to bed playing on their new laptops, tablets and phones last night so am hoping they sleep in!
Still undecided what we are doing with them today. Depends how DH is as he was unwell yesterday and fit for nothing. I made a big pot of Bolognese last night and that will be lunch if we stay in. If not needed I shall freeze in portions.
Still bitter cold with frozen snow here. Forecast to warm up a little later in the week so that should thaw it.
    Best wishes to all.

  • Morning all

Thanks for all the good wishes for DD2 yesterday

Very cold here again this morning the heating came on overnight, despite being set only to 'frost' setting.

Still at least I wasn't out scraping the ice off the car at silly o'clock this morning.

We may be having the littlest DGD (4 months) over for a couple of hours later when SIL collects DD2 from hospital.

She went down to theater at 1:30 & was there for over 5 hours, as she didn't get into the recovery ward until after 7pm, SIL text me at 8pm to let me know he'd contacted the hospital & she was back on the ward & then she phoned me herself at 9:15 to reassure me so I could sleep last night.

I need to buy some veg today but we have no other plans, we will be on standby in case DD2 or SIL need any help.

I shall go for a walk later as I do most days & carry on with my rainbow blanket.

I ordered a addi hook as my wrist & finer joints are painful & I'm hoping it will help a little.

    Have a good day everyone.

    Hugs Hester

Good morning everyone! Hope DD continues to recover well Hester.

I shall be scraping my car this morning as DS16 needs a blood test, he also has an orthodontist appointment later. My plan was to go sales shopping in between but the boys aren't bothered. DH and I might go on Friday instead.
So I might go and do the supermarket shop rather than doing that tomorrow. Still haven't washed the floors but we've hardly been here to make them dirty!

    Morning All

Milder today, no frost so all the windows are open to give the house a good airing.

DD and DS2 have gone to the airport, DS2 going to Iceland, DD going to DS2s house in The Netherlands, I will be flying out later from a different airport. I have stripped DS2s bed as he wont be back for a while, DDs can wait till we get back. I can leave the washing on the airers whilst I am away and it will be dry, the TD has been doing overtime!

HH - Hope DD is recovering well, good that she could phone you herself to put your mind at rest.
hilstep - Sounds like you had a great time.

Went for a meal last night with friends, when we looked after a dog a few weeks ago we were given some vouchers so we used them, still got one left so will save that for a lunch out somewhere. The food was good but the service is so slow, we all had to send our starters back as they were cold, they then said they didn't have any more so we said they could microwave them but 10 minutes later a new lot arrived. Anyway, they took £20 off the bill.

Have a good day everyone, take care. XX

    Morning all,

HH - glad DD was well, enoughto contact you last night - wishing her well x

Freezing here again - duvet is still warm though :)

Didn,t get to sleep till about 2 as OH was snoring like a troll - he was sneezing last night, so hoping it,s not a cold coming on.

Going to chop and freeze some peppers and leeks which I won,t use from fridge. Also have loads of spuds and onions and cheese, so can feel a pie coming on or maybe some pasties. Will stick another couple of bits on fleabay too, aiming for 2/3 a week.

Meeting friends for a drink tonight, wish I could take duvet with me - I,d rather hibernate through winter :)

Have a lovely day all x

Tidied up Christmas decs yesterday. Just tree to take down on Thursday. :T
    Hester, hopeDD is okay.

Had a quiet day yesterday. Going to see my dad later. It is his 82nd birthday today. Didn't think he would make 81, let alone 82!:rotfl:

Got to go food shopping later, run out of some things.

Not sure what to do for dinner, I have some chicken Kiev's that I bought for Christmas, maybe we'll have those.

    Have a good day all.
