  • I know,there's some really funny/peculiar words up there!

I don't know many Shetland words, but one that's stuck in my mind is the word for the great skua -bonksie. :rotfl::rotfl:

Nope - he was born in Malvern. Not sure where his wife was born, but it was the mainland. His son was born in Wales before his posting to Lerwick.

But his daughter is a Shetlander, which I'm told was the only reason he could buy some land he wanted!! He'd bought some to build a home on and wanted more to give them a larger garden - but they weren't selling to 'outsiders'. His application was about to be turned down when an official spotted she'd been born on the island, and his application was allowed.

That's the same as Jersey isn't it? You aren't allowed to but property unless a native of the island. My parents met there in their 20's but had to come back to the mainland to buy a house.

Right, apologies time, I have totally failed...to keep up with this thread and my count of NSD :p

Sat wasn't one as we were out for OH b'day, Sun was NSD #9 at least, yesterday wasn't one and neither was today due to some essential purchases. I'll need to check back to see if I have any more. Everything's gone a bit to pot this month, with OH b'day and work being crazy busy I just can't seem to plan my spends properly - although i am not throwing food away, nor spending excessively on it (I don't think) so that's a good thing.

Short visit from me tonight, not long finished emails and up for boot camp in the morning. Nite all xx

kerri, you've uttered the word which must stay hidden!!!!
Vinnie,Arnie and Shawnie boy were just saying that they were a bit peckish. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: ioeyk9.jpgioeyk9.jpgioeyk9.jpg

Some months are like that,so don't be too hard on yourself.

Belated Happy Birthday to your OH.

About Jersey,my sister lives there (not a native) and has bought a house.Maybe the law has been modified.I know that any building/housing projects are under a very strict leash.
Thinking about it,I seem to remember that you have to have lived there for 10 years minimum and be sponsored by your work.

NSD #10 here today. Mainly due to forgetting to take cards/cash out to work with me today. So dinner out of freezer.

Quite fancy a trip in the tardis to Shetland, but with the weather forecast as it is today, I think under the duvet with a hot water bottle is probably safer:D

Today will be #17 as I brought lunch to work again, have dinner planned already and generally have no need to spend!

Also, bonus NSD being clawed back - I lost one earlier in the mnth as I treated mysef to a pair of boots I'd been coveting for months - returned them yesterday as I just didn't "need" them and decided to save my cash. So I'm up to #18 :D
