Do the apps need to run on display always on or would they keep on running with the display in standby?

Have you tried taking the battery & sim card out and putting them back?

You can certainly turn the brightness down, but I don't know if it would run in standby, I'd guess not.

Yes, it's just the plastic button that has died.

They don't run on standby/lock. I tend to turn mine over if the constant video annoys me.
