in Credit cards
So 10 years ago i took out a store card with burtons i only had a £250 credit limit i were making regular payments on top of the minimum payment. My last purchase was in 2006 but the card was almost up to its limit i fell into money trouble with reduced hours at work and was only paying minimum payments since then. Newday have phoned me today and said i owe them over £280 because the direct debit failed in september this year. They made no contact with me to tell me but have been adding charges since. The balance in september was £160 but now over £280 i said if they get rid of the silly charges i will set up a payment schedule to pay the remainder. The charges are for late payments, a tracing fee and an over balance fee. Ive now been put to the complaints department waiting to hear from them. I asked on the phone whilst complaints ongoing can they freeze the account so no further charges they refused. If i dont make a payment before 15th jan they will add more charges. Where do i stand? What can i do? Any help would be appreciated

Generally, it's your responsibility to make sure that the payments are made.stupotasaurus1988 wrote: »...Where do i stand? What can i do? Any help would be appreciated
Why did the DD(s) fail? Do you still have the DD set up in you current account? If so, have you asked the bank why the DD failed?0 -
We need to know whether you cancelled the D/D or whether it was bounced by the bank?
Have any payments been made since September?0 -

Could they have made contact with you, or did they have to trace you first, as they had no current contact details?0 -
