    No, you can do it online with the V5C document reference number.

    You can't. You don't need to.


    On another note, have you been living in a cave for the last six months? The taxation changes came into force on 1st October, and they've been being discussed for over a year!

    To confirm, MOT and insurance are checked online automatically as part of the process.

    Insurance isn't checked as part of the purchase, and hasn't been for a year or more. But it IS checked against the tax list regularly throughout the time the car is taxed.
