Discount from independent kitchen retailer???

Options
I am sourcing a kitchen from an independent kitchen retailer. It is a Rotpunkt German kitchen.

The retailer has been helpful and between us we have come up with a good design, so I am not looking to be unreasonable, but with a quote of £10,500 for the units, and £900 for a dry fit (no worktops, splashbacks, appliances etc), I am wondering if there is likely to be ant room to negotiate a discount.

What kind of margins do independent retailers have on kitchen units, and what kind of discount, if any, could I reasonably expect?

Thanks

    Hi Martin1959

Generally I would say the price is the price but if the customer was sat in front of me and confirmed all was as they want and were prepared to pay the deposit then and there and asked for a little discount then I would consider it if it were still viable.

  • You don't say how many units you're getting but the price seems quite high to me for units only. There's always room to negotiate though. Have you got any quotes for a similar kitchen elsewhere to get an idea of there this price is relative to other suppliers?

You could always propose a price to them for the deal - maybe asking if they'll throw the dry fit in if you pay the full fee in advance, or something? Or see if they'll bite at £10k all-in? Or throw some extras in as sweeteners '£11,400 is a lot of money - and of course we love what you've designed and want to proceed, but is there anything you can offer to make the deal a little easier for us?' and angle for maybe some upgraded bits eg fancypants closure mechanisms, throw in a splashback, etc.
  • Thanks.

It is for about 24 units, including a motorised overhead cabinet.

The problem is comparing apples to pears.....I can get a similar combination in a 'shed' for about £6k, but with the total extension, purpose built glass gable, worktops and appliances coming in at about 70k, the difference between a 'shed' kitchen and a German kitchen, of £4k does not seem that great.

I think getting them to include the fitting may be the way to go.

    Cheers

This response might be a tad late for your but £10500 for 24 units incl motorised ones doesnt sound on the face of it to be a bad deal. It obviously depends on the specification of the units, but I dont think there would be much room for manoeuvre. Put it this way - if there was another £900 in this for the retailer, you have to be asking how much more and why you werent offered a better price in the first instance.
