Bathroom extractor fan problem

Hi, the extractor fan in my bathroom died last week. The bathroom is a single storey extension with a pitched roof. I thought the fan would have been behind the cover on the bathroom ceiling. But it's not. It's connected to the exterior wall by some silver ducting. So I thought the fan would be behind the cover on the exterior wall. But it's not! I can't see anything on the small roofspace either, just the ducting. It's very cramped in there and I don't like the thought of crawling in.
Any ideas?

You've got an in-line fan somewhere along the ducting like this:

Exactly right, they are normally more powerfull and provided they are mounted clear of the roof joists are also quieter.
Replace with same if failed.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
