Thanks Floss I will try that I hate throwing food out but Ald!s beetroot is always in a huge pkt. There is no way I can eat it before it goes off.0

Hi all. Long time etc.We are just having a breather between visitors. It's lovely to see them but it doesn't leave much time for anything else. The Rev has been rushed off her feet so entertaining has been down to me. All very satisfactory but I'm worn out.I've had a quick look through the thread but can't remember much, except the excellent pictures of renovated furniture. You lot put me to shame. Some time ago I bought some paint to update my old pine dresser but the paint remains in the tin and the dresser remains pine. One day.JackieO: if you read this try the Ryde High Street for Charity Shops. I miss them all SO much. If I'd known you were going to East Cowes I'd have told you where to find Mrs Jones' Tea Shop. It's very vintage and a real step into the past. There's not been much chance of MM&Ming lately but this morning I did clear up my study (?) and took loads of stuff up to the attic, blow-up beds and ancient duvets that have been called up into service, plus a few boxes of miscellaneous rubbish that the Rev is certain that we will want in the future. I can actually see the floor again. We are still on our own personalised diet so food is minimal just now. Very good on the housekeeping and even better news on the bathroom scales. Just as well really, visitors aren't cheap. That's it for now. Welcome any Newbies who have arrived in my absence. You will learn a lot if you stick around and there are plenty of good friends who will rejoice with you, weep with you and hold your hand when you are worried about anything. They are a lovely crowd on here.xI believe that friends are quiet angels

As you see from the above the gremlins still won't allow me to have spaces. Take a good, deep breath before you attempt to read any of my posts.xI believe that friends are quiet angels

Hello,
I have been keeping-up with all the posts on this thread, but never posted so far.
A bit about me: I knit and sew, like to rescue old furniture and grow fruit, veg and flowers in my (large, sometimes too large garden). We also mend and fix as much as we can around the house. Our next big project is to make our own kitchen!
I have a few days off work and I was planning on doing some gardening, but as I am not feeling very well I think I will spend today and tomorrow knitting, sewing and reading. I have a few tops and dresses that do not fit very well so I will change them. I have one dress that is too short and so I am going to make it into skirt and a charity shop dress I am going to make into a top as it has a far too long slit in the skirt!
Looking forward to a few days pottering as I do not often get the chance to do this much.0 -

I am having problems too, but for me it is EXTRA spaces!
Maybe I have stolen yours? Would you like your spaces back? *imagine smiley face here as I also cannot post smileys*0 -
Spider - welcome! I think you'll fit right in!
Do hope a little quiet time work will have you feeling better soon.Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
Evening all,
Nice to 'see' new 'faces.' I don't think I greeted you Asti, and Spider, Welcome!
I did all of the things on my list today bar one small admin task, but it will keep until tomorrow. I feel particularly tired tonight, I think I may have overdone it at the gym a bit. OH is out again, this time with current colleagues so I think I'm going to knit and watch the current Agatha Christie on BBC iplayer featuring Tommy and Tuppence. I do quite like Tuppence.:D
Tomorrow I'm planning to go to a WI meeting. I've been trying to go for several months and haven't been able to make it, but as of now my schedule is clear for the next three meetings so it is time to try it out. I'm a bit nervous. At 32 I'm worried I might be the youngest there by far--which is fine by me but not sure how they'll feel about it! But then I've read that you can go to up to three meetings before you need to join so if I don't like it, it only cost me a pound and the train fare. Unfortunately the meetings are fairly late and I'll need to get a train which might deter me in the coming months. The thing is, I'd like to meet some people outside of my work so it seems like as good a place as any to start.
NurseMaggieHave you tried Ravelry for knitting patterns? I find their sort function for 'free' and 'easy' perfect as a beginner.0 -
Youngest dd has painted the wooden box she is giving a friend and I have upholstered the foam slab that is lining the bottom of the box with patchwork style material.
We are now starting to sew the bunting to the ribbon and it looks really good. She has gone off for a couple of days to see friends so I might surprise her and do a bit more of the hand sewing.
Most of my sewing stuff is in a tatty plastic caddy so I have decided to treat myself to a lovely large sewing box which looks as if it is a match for the material dd chose to line the box and is very pretty.
Decided to treat it as my birthday present to myself."This site is addictive!"

Ald1 beetroot is on offer at the moment at 29p a pack - it has a long-ish use by date so I will be bulk buying this week.
I cannot use a full pack in a week either so I open the pack, drain and slice the beetroot before dropping the slices into a large jar of pickling vinegar and storing in the fridge - lasts at least two weeks and as long as the beetroot are well drained before adding, its okay to keep reusing the vinegar for many weeks:heartpuls The best things in life aren't things :heartpuls

Hi FPK I think you are very brave to try the WI. I have never had one near me when I had the time to go. When we were on Anglesey I did think about going to the place it started in the UK. The problem was not the train journey but the mile and a half walk each way to and from the station during the winter.
Have you seen this on iplayer

I am sure you know Lucy Worsley as you like history too.
Yes I am a member of Ravelry. I always seem to like the most expensive pattern. I mostly do my own patterns but apart from making a baby hoodie for DGS I have not done a hood since his mum was 6. DD will be 43 this year. I haven't done a Vneck jumper for nearly as long. I do not need easy patterns. I have been knitting since before I went to school.
Do enjoy the WI.0
