A headteacher of my acquaintance was so tired of having teachers get her to arbitrate on the length of pupils' skirts that she banned skirts altogether. She now gets to arbitrate on the tightness of schoolgirls' trousers instead...........:rotfl:
Have had some positive news; the gas plumbers got in upstairs without having to break in. The tank has a split and has a temp. seal and the new tank goes in on Thurs. Hopefully, a few days after that, I will start to be able to put my household to rights. Yippee!! :j
I bumped into the new version forum about an hour ago. I didn't like it. It has now gone away and I hope it stays away. If it ain't broke......Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Gosh the other horror was the navy blue 'nap 'coat with arms that trailed the ground as you would 'grow into it 'I never did as I was very Twiggy like for most of my school years (bit different now
) and the awful regulation knickers with a pocket !!! for your hankerchief. I could never ever imagine hoicking up my gymslip to get a hanky out of my keks
:):) especially in my senior school which was a mixed boys & girls school.:):):)

I logged off about 8.15 am and the forum was as usual. I logged back on again at about 3.30 pm and it was all different. I answered a PM and made a post in the new format but when the post posted, it was the old format again. There was a message on the top of the board saying that you could put yourself back to the old view for a short period of time.
Another poster pointed out that there were threads about this on the forum feedback, a section I'd never been on (bottom of list of forums) and when I got down there, there were 3 threads of complaints, all of which had just been locked against further comments.
Seems that MSE got the message that people weren't happy and put it back again and locked the threads so no more negativity could be expressed - we live in interesting times, peeps.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Absolutely the same thing happened to me and the changes were awful! Very white screen which was difficult to read. No just the case of a new format but just ghastly. I don't think anyone liked it and there was general mutiny!
I think the site would lose a lot of loyal members!0 -

I think the site would lose a lot of loyal members!Jan, Martin Lewis himself posted on the Feedback board a few mins ago, I'll post the link below. It seems that today was a glitch, we shouldn't have all got the new version yet, but there will be an option for existing registered users to opt for the previous version. It's all about making the forums mobile-device friendly, apparently.

Yes I read that message, too. We had the option before and I chose it. Will wait and see how it goes, I guess. If it helps all get accessibility then I can understand it and at least we get the choice if we're registered to have the old version.

Evening All,
This thread does bring back my youth! My grandmother put my hair in rags every night as a child and I still have ringlets, well, curls, now; I think she must have 'trained' my hair!
I also had to wear a bowler hat at school; every one was a different shape depending on how you stuffed it in your satchel or pocket. I remember mine looked like a policeman's helmet as I very neatly quartered it. Oh the days when we wore hats - Easter was the occasion for a summer one and autumn meant I had to have a new winter one - one can't imagine children wearing one now for even an hour without extreme bribery. But it was the norm then.
I'm always on the look out for prawn recipes as my DB would live off them if he could; here's one of Gordon Ramsay's, which you don't have to hover over.
Prawn Pilau - serves 4
500ml light chicken stock, 4 tbsp. olive oil, large onionb peeled and finely chopped, garlic clove, peeled and chopped, tsp ground cumin, tsp ground coriander, one and a half tsp mild curry powder, 10 cardamom pods, few thyme sprigs (leaves only), 200 grams basmati rice, sea salt and black pepper, 20 large tiger prawns in shells.
Heat the oven to 200 degrees/ gas 6. Cut a circle of baking paper, big enough to cover a wide, ovenproof pan, cut a steam hole in the centre (fold the paper into segments, cut off the tip, then open out). Bring the stock to the boil in another pan.
Heat the olive oil in the ovenproof pan, add the onion, garlic, spices and thyme. Stir over a medium heat for 2-3 minutes, then tip in the rice and stir well. Add some salt and pepper and toast the rice for a minute. Pour in the boiling stock and quickly arrange the prawns on the top of the rice in one layer.
Lay the baking paper on top to cover, then transfer the pan to the oven. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the rice is just tender and has absorbed most of the liquid. Leave to stand, still covered with the paper for % minutes before serving.
When I got home today, I made the decision to get rid of several designer dresses and outfits on ebay. My daughter-in-law has put them on for me- most of them have only been worn once or twice, some not at all, and there will be quite a few more things, including good shoes in the next few days. If anyone is interested pm me and I'll give you the details - they are all 'buy it now' but if you post on this thread and want something of mine, I will reduce the prices for you.
Have a great evening.

Haven't seen the new format - I like the one we've got! Just chuckling about the old school uniforms. I'd love to know who decided we should wear grey berets with a long blue tassel on the crown - just right for the boys school next door to play Frisbee with them. We also had to make our domestic science aprons in our needlework classes - heavy white cotton that was edged in gingham in your house colour - different times ehSmall victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0
