    Me again

I forgot to ask if anyone knows how to get rid of the smell of dogs from a cylinder vacuum cleaner. I have scrubbed and immersed every washable part in star drops, washing up liquid and washing powder,(not that I'm paranoid) but there is still a slight lingering odour. I was wondering if maybe white vinegar would work?

All help will be gratefully received. Many thanks. xx

  • Seems at the moment that its just you and me, JackieO, that are the littlies round here. :)

Kitty - know how you feel about 'the mother hubbards' thing. I'm so looking forward to trying a few of the recipes but I'll be patient. Our time will come. ;)
You might not be so impressed with the photos of our dinner over the next few weeks. I've got to cobble together some meals out of some very strange bits and bobs. :p

I think the thing that gave away that I wasn't tall and willow-like must be that everyone guessed the uncanny resemblance between me and my avatar (although she carries a hat off better than me). That and maybe the fact that biscuits feature too often in my shopping lists. :D

Viv, that's another lovely sounding recipe that will go straight on page one of this thread immediately. :T

I'm still trying to work out whether I really want to try knitting with 'bagpipes.' :rotfl: The dpns that I have are as thin as spaghetti, too.
Question - with knitted sock, does the wool feel a bit strange against the bottom of your feet? I wondered if it feels soft or a bit irritating. All my shop bought ones are very fine knit cotton, not had real woolly ones before.

    Today was a NSD. :T

Tomorrow I am being taken out to breakfast or dinner. Depends when DH finishes his meeting at work.
This is a rare treat for us. We don't often 'lunch.' We decided to give ourselves the treat after receiving a letter concluding the final sadness of the last two years.
This time we benefit but the cost to DH was so high. I feel so fortunate that I still have both my parents. I'm very, very grateful.
Tomorrow will be a few hours of forgetting about money and just taking time out.
Tomorrow evening I'm back MMM in earnest. ;)

I dont know how your vacuum cleaner is constructed but may I suggest bicarbonate of soda? It removes horrible pongs from fridges/cupboards/ corners of teenage boys rooms etc. If you can get it to stay in the cavity bit - say - overnight or sprinkle it onto a hooverable filter it should do the trick. The only thing is to be careful as you dont want it getting damp and clogging your vacuum cleaner up. About a tablespoon is good.
Let us know what your machine is - I am sure more ideas will arrive!! :)

  • Hiya folks!

AS you might guess because I wasnt on here yesterday as it charged past - I left the house at 1.30 and didnt get back until 11.30pm!! I have a new client who is an hours drive away - then another client - then a meeting for my CAMRA group to attend. All went well but phew was I shattered today AND I had two clients to work with (another 3 hours on the road in all!)

So that you all can feel tall I think Im the shortest so far at 4ft 11 and 3/4 inches! the 3/4 is vital LOL! A bit like when you dont have much money you count every penny - when you are short you count every 1/4 inch!! (was blonde now going grey!)

HowMuch - I hope your folks ops go ok. Not an easy time for you. When you have stress like that MS is even harder. Let us all know how it goes

Jackie O - wondered if you decided to do the coupon thing - I did similar when I broke my leg last year - got free MrT delivery if over a certain amount. So stocked up on basics that would not go off and/or were heavy!! I anticipated being back walking to shop as before - where I can only carry so much in my little rucksack - it is a very good money saving device!! Walkies for free and restricted on volume of stuff one can buy. If I see a bulky bargain I will nip there with my car as I often pass that way.

Yesterday was not an NSD as I had to grab lunch on the hoof so bought a £3 'Meal Deal' - better than stopping off at a pub or fast food place 1) cheaper 2) could make wiser diet choices!! Still got £2 till Saturday!!!

I remember 84 Charing Cross Road - as they say the pictures are better on radio!! I am also a bit cuddly! The comfort model as I like to put it :rotfl:

Hence the concern with weight reduction/maintenance. I think it is important in both MS and dieting to acknowledge that there will always be 'days beyond our control'

Anyway here's to a day in control tomorrow!

This thread is a tonic! Another fan of gentle TV dramas, Jane Austen's books (Persuasion is my favourite) and knitting.

I've just finished the jumper I made with the yarn I bought as a treat after the last decent sized job, I'm really pleased with it (not often the case, I often hate the things I knit!). Trying to decide what to do next. Fancy a boxy linen number but am struggling to find inexpensive linen yarn. I notice that European websites' yarn prices are better than ours, as with so many things.

Well done to those learning new knitting skills, I'm sure it's good for the grey matter and keeps our brains in good shape! btw CS are often brilliant for needles, although it can be feast or famine so it's worth checking regularly.

Loving reading everyone's impressions of each other and how it matches up to reality.

:rotfl: I'm neither of these. I'm 5 foot 6, 11 and a half stone so unfortunately have never been described as petite. Have brown hair (currently shoulder length) and brown eyes.

Most definitely not a Belle of the Old South, however, was watching the film while joining MSE so it did inspire my username.

finished darning some socks last night. I great a great deal of satisfaction from mending stuff.
  • Morning all!

I need to get some milk today, and a few apples......and that SHOULD mean no more spending needed until after the weekend....by which time we will already be in March!!!!

Silvasava:....You are on the 5:2?...it's how I have managed to lose most of the weight I've lost so far. I love the plan. It is really slow - especially with my inability to exercise, and the fact I take meds that 'may cause weight gain' (and for 'may' read 'absolutely will'!) - but it DOES work for me...and it means I can still indulge my love of food!

Vhalla :...I always enjoy reading the recipes, keep them coming!...Tow of my favourites recently - the BuckRarebit (I like to splash out a little and get a small bottle of beer, add a slosh of beer to the cheese for the meal, and drink the rest when dinner is served!....unfortunately I have a slight sensitivity to cheese and can't indulge that often.).....and warm potato salad is just delicious, I much prefer it to the cold sort with mayo.

Cheerfulness: I make my own coleslaw too...I use home made joghurt for the dressing instead of mayo...and I like to add grated kohlrabi to it...as a treat I add grated apple and a few walnuts too.

Jinny:...well done on mastering the dpns...I have recently won that battle too! I do boxes for Operation Christmas Child and want to knit mittens for my boxes this year, and the pattern I have means I had to learn to knit in the round.

Quiet day planned for today...I have a 'new' book to read ....an unabridged version of Head Girl Of The Chalet School...I love the old school stories! .....and then I want to start knitting the third purse I am doing.

    Have a good day all!
  • Oh....and I meant to ask...someone (cheerfulness?) mentioned avatars....why can't I see them?...how do I enable them (and maybe put in one of my own?)
