Hi all,
Travelling to Dunkirk on Tuesday, just realised I have misplaced my licence.
Do they ask for this when boarding? Passport, V5, insurance etc. all in order - I have the paper bit, but not the photo card.
Thanks,
Darren.

Nobody at the ferry terminal is going to ask for any documents for either you or your vehicle. Apart from passport of course.
If any foreign polizei ask for documents then I'm sure you'll be OK with the counterpart.
For now that is - but get a replacement licence (or find the one you've misplaced) as paper counterparts are going to be obsolete very soon.
They will cease from 8th June 2015 - that's later than originally planned which was 1st January 2015.
Folks with the even older paper only licence will be happy to know that they can continue with no photocard licence until they reach 70 or change address.0 -
My understanding was that it is compulsory to carry your UK driving licence when driving in France, punishable by an on the spot fine of 38 Euros rising to 135 Euros if you still can't produce it after five days.
That is certainly the advice Brittany Ferries give to motorists.

French Entr!e also give the same advice

Better hope you don't get stopped in a traffic check or have any type of incident.0 -

That may not be true - I have tried to access a government web site and been asked to prove my identity by supplying my passport number or my photo driving licence number. So now I am a non person, as my passport has run out and I have a green licence.
With the current fuss about 17 deaths in France, things can only get worse as nobody trusts anyone these days.0 -
J_P, that's three threads already that I've seen where you've posted the same thing, we've got the message now, could you stop?0

Fortunately on one of the two postings I found someone with a similar problem and was inspired to press on looking for a back door way into the system.

What appears to be happening is that the government has tried to fit a front end gateway onto their systems and decided to poke their nose further into the citizen's affairs. Perhaps this is a laudable attempt to stamp out citizens creating multiple on-line ids but do they really need a photo of every user of government systems plus access to their credit rating ?
The biggest problem is almost certainly that none of us have a unique identifier, because more than two generations ago, the National Insurance number was created with no check digit and is now one of the most primitive systems in the world, riddled with errors.0
