Have you tried Rent to Own or just renting a laptop for now until you can make some extra money to buy a laptop? I believe there is no credit check on some Rent to Own sites but you do have to make a monthly payment. Don't forget to always check to see if places have student discounts so have your student id handy.:j0

Have you applied for credit yet?
You wanted an immediate decision, but have probably already waited 2 days. And that's in addition to the weeks before you last posted.
If you want credit then you apply for credit.
My guess is that you don't really need a laptop, but you want the instant gratification you get from buying a new toy.
As said above, new HD costs £50 and can be fitted by an idiot. Chances are it'll also speed your laptop up a little.0 -
Yes thankyou i do have an income along side my uni. All my wages goes on paying rent and paying off my student loans. I work for minimum wage in a resteraunt but it gives me the extra money i need. all i can afford at the moment is to put 80 pounds a month into my savings but at least i am doing it
please say that's not the government student loans you're paying off.0 -
I'd strongly recommend searching for a tutorial to replace the drive yourself. It really is a 10 minute easy job and the drive is cheap. If you type your laptop model number into youtube, you will often find a step-by-step demo of how to replace it. I know all the technical jargon can be a bit intimidating, but you can always ask for help on one of the other boards on this forum - they'll probably be able to recommend a compatible drive for you. Reinstalling the operating system is also very easy if you have the "recovery disk" that came with the laptop.
Very few people need an expensive laptop. If you are convinced on buying a new one, a £200 one should perform very well. Sell the old one to raise money.
If you definitely 100% need it now and absolutely cannot pay for it, see if you can get an interest-free student overdraft or a student credit card from your bank.
I'd recommend asking for advice on the Budgeting or "Debt-Free Wannabe" boards if you're struggling financially, they will often be able to save you a lot of money.0
