I do that tooDP has said lots of times he would like to learn to cook more - and for all manner of reasons, that would be a good idea. I mean, how cool is it that you get a good meal if you or your co-pilot in life, cooked it ? However, DP is a very 'by the book' person, and everything seems to take so long (because I can't deviate from the recipe with a shortcut
). Also, sometimes you just 'know' when you've kneaded/stirred/added sufficient salt - it isn't about 10mins/2 times or a tsp.
It's funny though, because i'd actually love it if I was cooked for more. We were chatting about this very subject the other day. Whether it is 'worth' trusting a significant event - a birthday or retirement or something of that order to a restaurant meal, especially the mid-level price bracket. You so want to be treated (no cooking, no washing up), but lots of places come up short. I'm for buying the ingredients and making a feast, but DP leans towards the treating ourselves. But then if we have a duff meal, we would both fume at the money wasted....... Also being veggie, choice is limited. We were looking at somewhere quite well known the other day. The current menu shows that 'mains' for veggies, are more or less a rehash/bigger plate of what they offer as a 'starter' for veggies. At £12.50 a pop.
Friday. Pizza night. No wedges, will try some salad-y type things.
Just had a thought, MWC are you or MrMWC available for hire? We've only a tiny kitchen, but we'll make you feel welcome
Anyhoo, must go and shake a tail-feather.
See y'all later.

Good Evening :hello:
Ay, what a day, what a day, what a day. Mostly good though
Don't think that I have achieved anything outstandingly :money: today; which is a pityBut then, I've not broken the bank either, so small wins and all that :j
DP has just made me larfWe were munching us dinner watching a taped episode of Mary Berry's new series. There was a little running commentary going, 'we've had a version of that', 'yep, eating it now Mary' (in response to her salad plate :rotfl:), and 'she'll flake that won't she?' - two seconds before Dame Mary uttered; 'flake the salmon.....' :rotfl:
Dinner for us, wasn't quite meditteranean salad with pesto chicken........ it was cheese and tomato pizza (HM) with 2 accompanying salads. We had avocado in egozim (again) and African Black-Eyed Bean Salad.
The pizza isn't burnt - honest. I sprinkled paprika on top of the cheese again (hence the darker patches). This week the cheese melted well and lovely paprika oil soaked into the crust and dribbled over our hands as we ate - tissues to the fore!
Last week I got a punnet of apricots from the market for 99p. This week, same punnet, £1.49. I really don't think our market has got the hang of supply and demand economics........ I went to mrA instead, and albeit a smaller punnet (400g), but of better quality fruit..... 85p. Tsk.
Called into M&$ on the way home. A lovely lady let me go in front of her in the queueThe lady in front of me bought over £150 worth of food (probably for some sort of party/dinner/afternoon tea, looking at the selection) She got schmoozed and had her bags packed by the till operative - for c-b-c. I spent £1.25 on lemons and an onion and had to pack my own (reuseable cloth) bag :rotfl:
Today I am grateful for these 3 things;
for knowing my prices - saves the pennies......
for several moments of peace and quiet in an otherwise hectic environment
for freedom and for life..............................................
Thanks so much for popping in and reading. Greatly appreciated. Always.

I mostly saw airports, hotels and offices on my travels. Although I did manage to fit in a visit to a waterfall...
Currently trying to book my next trip... Mormon country has never been on my list of places to go to, and it's going to be HOT in July!0 -

I've just realised that the recipe that I keep quoting for the avocado and walnut salad, although it has the same name, isn't quite the same as the one that I make. I am using Arto's book - Vegetarian Dishes from the Middle East probably a 1984 version when it first came out in paper back (bought in a charity shop). Arto passed away in 1987, and his books were relatively recently re-issued. I think I noticed differences between the one I have and the re-issue.
So, basically, regarding the above recipe link. My version doesn't contain yoghurt. It's one ingredient too many in my humble opinion and I'm surprised that the lemon juice - needed to stop the avocados oxidising - doesn't split it. Anyhow, if you omit the yoghurt and where it says dill, substitute with 1/2 a tsp of cumin - which is sprinkled on at the end, just before serving - you'll have the version that I show in any of my pics. I don't bother with the olives (as I usually have none
), and in the version I have, he also draped thinly sliced red pepper strips over at the end for presentation.
Just needed to get that clarification out there

ooh, I don't envy you with the heatHope you get to see something of the state itself though. I watched a travel doc - I think it was one of Henry Cole's motorcycling ones (well, DP was watching it...) and the countryside was beautiful.

I should see a bit as I have to travel between towns for meetings. But as one of my colleagues pointed out, it's a great area for hiking - not something she or I would do when travelling on our own. The first challenge though, is to find a hotel that doesn't mention proximity to the areas drug addicts hang out, blocked toilets, dirty bathrooms or broken aircon...0

Gosh Greenbee  Hope you find somewhere safe to stay!
Greying, I'm just popping in to say you've been unknowingly inspiring me this weekYour grilled courgettes looked SO tasty the other day that I did some myself
Had a using-things-up (ish) meal of red quinoa (Mr Cheery's sister was throwing an unopened box into the bin!! Obviously we rescued it. Can't imagine that stuff ever goes out of date!
Anyway, red quinoa, green beans, and a fried up onion/mushroom/chickpea mix with a kind of glaze of honey and smoked paprika (well, I say 'a kind of glaze' - it was literally just a dollop of honey and a bit of smoked paprika:rotfl: ) All topped with my grilled courgettes
Very tasty - so thank you! :j :j
(just spent the last 24 hours in Skegness eating chip butties so not quite as sophisticated :rotfl: )0 -
