If you only want a fb account for selling things, could you try gumtr33 instead? You do still need to join, but it is much less intrusive, in my opinion, than fb.

I feel for you with the 10 min naps from bg. I used to get 25 mins, and always used it to read a book - none of this 'doing chores' malarkey for me!

    Good Morning :hello:

You can use the book of face anonymously if you like just make up a fake name and keep your profile private - you'll often be asked to 'join' or request to join a local selling page - its free. You do need to link it to your/or an email address I use a diff email address for FB than I do in real life. Just prefer the privacy.

If it were me I'd use a fake [private] name/private account and I'd just browse at home on unlimited BB - if you join/follow local groups - you'll be able to see any updates as it will alert you when you log in.

Pipster you are a marvel! That is exactly what I wondered if I could do. I have no motivation to do anything nefarious, but the only thing I would want to do with FB would be the local selling pages. I've no intention of setting up a page to boast about 'me tea' ;), baby TarquinAmelia's 'firsts' nor how much my property has appreciated in value overnight ;) So I'd like to stay anonymous, because if it happens that the selling pages are as bad as the local freecycle pages - far too cliquey and all the good stuff is divvied up before it hits the pages - well then my foray into FBdom is going to last 2 seconds! It is just that 3 independent folk have now mentioned it as good for getting bargains.
My FB name isn't a real name either :D it always makes me chuckle when folks dont' realise and meet me and call me my made up name. FB isn't real life all the time I tell them, its fairy-book-land :D

You do realise that if we ever meet in RL, DH will be calling you 'Pippi' don't you? :rotfl:

apple muncher - I appreciate the tip, I'm not sure if I have much to sell though, it's more being interested in what other people have to sell, at present.

Thinking about it, perhaps I ought to shove all my 'wants' on freecycle. I rarely look at our local one now, I got fed up of people asking for things, expensive things, and being very specific as to what they would and would not accept. Whilst I am aware that there are always a set of folk who throw perfectly good stuff away, there are also a set of folk who are down right cheeky.

    On the planner today is 'something with rice' I may stick with that and pull some chilli from the freezer, or I may just change it to, 'something with pasta' to use up bits elsewhere. Tea last night was soup. I made a version of Maria Elia's Sweetcorn & Lemongrass soup. I used frozen sweetcorn, didn't use milk - just water and a stock pot thingy, used 2 YS'd lemongrass stalks and i stirred the blob of creme fraiche in totally, rather than as a finishing 'swirl'. Served with flatbread, picture here;

Right, Baby Greying has got fed up, so I'd better vamoose.

Ta for popping in, reading and for all your help and advice. Mucho appreciated. As ever.

I've never thought of using frozen sweetcorn GP - I do always have tinned in though, and the tins of value stuff are so cheap... frozen sliced peppers are my "always in" go to though - they're brilliant!

Got distracted (by which I mean "had to get on with some actual work") before I was able to finish there.

Your parsnip thing looks ace and as MrEH LOVES 'snips I may need to note that for the future.

Ha ha - I've just popped something in the post box (the red one :D) to 'Pippi' - it was sooooo tempting :D :rotfl:

EH - if you don't have access to Maria's book or a library copy and you need recipe spec for the parsnip dish, let me know. The dish looks complicated, but broken down it is as easy as. But in the original recipe, she does advocate using the parsnip peelings to make stock. very :money:but not always practical. I know where she is coming from - she uses sweetcorn cobs (de-kerneled) to make stock too - and she's right, it's all about boosting the flavour at no extra cost.

Thank you Greying - I may well beg that recipe from you at some stage. Parsnip peelings in stock though? Hmmmm.....de-kernaled corn cobs though I'm with her on....especially a chicken stock....which then gets made into chicken and sweetcorn soup. Slurp.

  • Good Morning :hello:

    Gosh, this week is whizzing.

I may well manage a NSD today. I think we've got all the 'big' stuff that we need. The menu-planner says 'buddha bowl' and I know that I've got several choices for that option (lucky Greying!)

Tea last night was 2 bean chilli from the freezer, rice, broccoli and creamed sweetcorn. I used up the last of the creme fraiche in the creamed sweetcorn. Unfortunately there was just a bit too much creme fraiche to sweetcorn - but I would have been left with a 'silly' bit of CF otherwise, so it did resemble sweetcorn 'custard'. Tasted fine though, and there was still sufficient fibre contained therein _pale_:rotfl:

Baby Greying is full of beans this morning, so I'm quitting whilst I'm ahead.

Thanks for popping by, mucho, mucho appreciated.

Cheeky! :D But yes, we were! :rotfl::rotfl:

Well, I talked alot of tosh about anticipating a NSD, I'd forgotten we needed bananas, so I bought a couple of other things too (needed) since the NSD had gone, plus DH has been tasked with picking up some bits from mrL.

I had a good look at the YS'd department in m&$. Unless you know exactly what the price of the item was originally, you have no idea how much they have knocked off. Their stickers just say 'Now £X.XX' And of course, because all the items are out of context, there is no SEL to refer to. They must think I'm stoopid........ I stuck with my bananas, which i had weighed, so knew approximately how much they were going to be. And the self-service till didn't defeat me today :T It is the small things :rotfl:

I had a wander around treegum for our local area last night. Half an hour later........ To be fair, there were some baby things on there, but I have no idea if they were attractively priced, as they were not things on my radar. Would they have been nice for BG to have? I guess, but were they needed? What i did find advertised was something that I would 'like', so I then spent time looking up to see if it was well priced, only to find that in fact, I would need the 'next one up', which was, on average, 50% dearer! :rotfl: And why, why, why dear readers, did you not let me into the big secret that I could make fowsands by working out me own 'ome. Tsk! keep a gal in penury why dontcha!

I hope FB have specific selling 'areas' if I have to wade though all the adverts, it's unlikely to happen. I've already proved my own point, by my own actions last night!

On a related note, I did take a look at our local freecycle again. Nothing caught my eye, but the tone had definitely changed - back to its orginal purpose - ie I have this, do you want it? Or I need this, do you have it going spare? None of this, 'I want this, it must be red, no older than 12 months, undented, in full working order, still under guarantee, and you'll need to deliver it, wrap it and sing 'Happy Birthday'..............

Right, better potter off. BG is resolutely determined to keep awake and has morphed into the wriggliest thing in wriggledom! :D

    Good Evening :hello:

Tonight's post is powered by a soundtrack of INXS, 'coz frankly, why not?

Today has been a funny day.

A convo over on edinburgher's thread got me to thinking about online personas. I choose not to be overly revelatory about my life. Actually, a diary is quite a departure for me. But what little I do write is all true. I don't make stuff up to make myself more interesting. No, I really am this pedestrian :rotfl:I am happy to say when I'm wrong; when I don't understand or when I'm upset about something. I hope that the 'me' in RL is no different to the Greying Pilgrim you see before you.

On the high street today, someone fell over. I was the nearest person able to go to help. I had to dodge through cars, who's drivers were rubber-necking........ By the time I got to them, they'd picked themselves up. I picked up some of their scattered belongings, and asked if they were OK. They said they were. They then said something (nice) that quite, quite choked me up. I don't know why I'm telling you this, it's just that they had noticed me, with Baby Greying - and didn't expect to be speaking to me I guess. It's just such a contrast to the interaction with a stranger the other week............. I hope that they really were OK, (I'm apt to believe adults when they say they are OK), 'coz I had to just make my excuses and continue on my way, or burst into tears, which wouldn't have helped the situation......

Tea this evening was a buddha bowl. I was planning on utilising some of the Kala chana to make the Merguez Chickpeas that EH recommended. Well as it turned out, when I looked up the recipe for the chickpeas, components for the rest of the buddha bowl kinda presented themselves. So I had this all in hand, and I was stood in the kitchen, looking at Baby Greying (a hard job, but someone's gotta do it ;)) and something mentioned on Cheery's thread wandered into my brain-cell. Jack Monroe's smokey red lentil burgers...... what a combo :D

    However,

I hadn't enough time to make burgers had I?

Well, I'm nowt if not stubborn, so I gave it a go. Of course, in my rush, I didn't drain the lentils adequately, so the mix was very loose. So I improvised and made use of lentils natural propensity to solidify when they cool. I greased a baking tin and poured the mix out, levelled it and shoved it in the fridge. 1 bathed baby later, and the mix was solid enough to turn out and cut up into lengths.

    So, we had; date & orange cous cous, with merguez chickpeas and green beans topped with smokey lentil 'fingers' :rotfl: and the spiced yoghurt dressing (Hugh's recipe) made with some of the merguez spice and a drizzle of pomegranate molasses and some caraway seeds scattered over. Picture here;

    004_zps4xjodyza.jpg

I ran some chopped fresh tomato through the chickpeas - I could have done the squash (I have some) but couldn't be bothered to have the oven on. I wouldn't hesitate to make a light tomato sauce for them next time, I think it would work.

I didn't use medjool dates. I can only afford them when they are heavily discounted in mrW after Christmas. I used the dates from h0me bargins at 89p for 500g.

I am going to make some hummus with the additional chickpeas that i cooked up in the PC. I think I'll have a go at red pepper hummus and use some of the extra merguez spice powder I made ;) See, you thought this was all 'fly by the seat of my pants' didn't you? Some planning does occasionally happen y'know ;)

Keepers of recipes - thanks EH and thank you Cheery for the prompt about the smokey red lentil burgers - perfick :D

Today, I'm grateful for much. But let's leave it to the lads eh?

  • Good Morning :hello:

Friday already again.Pizza and wedges tonight. But I am going to use up the 'leftover' pizza in the freezer, so it'll be cheese and tommy or med. veg. I'm going to probably give the mrL wedges a try, so actually, cheese and tommy will be the better choice. Can I nick a nsd?

Baby Greying is being a wrigglebum supremo this morn. So I'm best off outta here - before their typing gets interesting..... :D

    See y'all later.
