Trouble connecting TV to soundbar

Can anyone please help apart from suggesting that I need to buy another TV?
We were given a Baird CN42BAIR TV, it has no optical output or headphone socket.
Hubby bought a Goodmans 50W Bluetooth Soundbar and we can connect it through Sky and it works ok but can't get any sound when we try to connect the red and white phono leads directly to the TV so we can't use it with the DVD etc.
There is no HDMI connection facility on the soundbar and we are banging our heads trying to get it to work, I have scoured the internet and am literally close to tears.

Are the red and white phonos on the TV labelled Audio Output?
If not, what's written next to them?
How have you connected it to 'Sky'?0 -
Hi Googler,
Thanks for replying...it just says R1 & R2 no audio output label on TV....it's connected into RCA phono sockets on back of the sky box (red and white)Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life. ~Confucius0 -
R1 & R2 ... where? On the soundbar? On the TV? On the Sky box?
There's NOTHING on the TV to indicate the function of the two phono sockets? Nothing at all?0 -
Forget using the TV for sound. What connections does the soundbar have?
Preferably you'll have optical digital. You can connect the Sky box to that.
If not, you might, might have Coaxial digital. Your Sky box might also have that - use that.
If not, use the red and white phonos from Sky box to soundbar.
For the DVD player, you'll be using whatever connections you haven't used above that are still available - note that the best sound will come from using optical or coaxial digital.
Don't cry over it! Model number of soundbar?0
