subnet/routing question

One for network experts (simple I am sure). See pic below. 2 nets (or subnets - sorry but my terminology may be wrong here).
subnet1
All the clients on subnet1 have internet access courtesy of router1.
subnet2
How do I give clients on subnet2 internet access via the computer?
(I have some wired only clients connected to router2).

I'm guessing
1. the wifi adapter needs to share internet (ICS?!) The computer is Windows7
2. I need to route traffic on subnet2 to subnet1 (this is where I get out of my depth; the G/W on router2 should point to the computer's ethernet adapter I guess?)

I don't use Windows and can't help you with setting it up, but what you basically have to do is to set up a static route on the PC in subnet 2 saying "if you want to access subnet 192.168.252.y, then use the computer as gateway and not the default gateway router2". Just google "static route windows". The gateway should be the IP of the computer in subnet2.

On the command line the command would be something like

route add 192.168.252.y mask 255.255.255.0 192.168.1.???

But what you really want is setting it up in the network settings permanently.

Why 2 subnets? just have one and make one range from 2-128 and the other 128 to 254?

or just put the proxy into the web browsers

Yes. My sister-in-law's. She had given us the (guest account) wifi password but wouldn't let us anywhere near the router (doesn't trust me for some reason; cannot think why

I didn't notice that router 2 has no Internet access when I replied. And you didn't write that you want to access the Internet through router 1 from subnet 2. In this case my first reply won't help you at all. For this to work you just need to change the default gateway on all PCs in subnet 2 to the IP of the computer facing subnet 2.

One more thing, you need to make sure that the computer can route packets. I don't know whether this is enabled by default in Windows.

If it isn't it can be enabled. Sorry I have not done this sort of thing for years, used to doing it on servers now so it is all a little different. But on a server, I would install DNS (which you should be able to do on Windows) and put on a forwarder address to the router 1 via the wireless nic on the computer.

This is an interesting post, it get's your mind ticking, just the mental stimulation needed after these long Christmas holiday days!
