Hello All,
Newbie here with regards TV's etc so looking for done advice and help please.
My garage is converted into a room and I'm looking for a TV to mount onto the wall. My budget is £400-£450 and looking at either a 42/47/50 inch screen, plasma/LCD/led is fine, will be used mainly for TV but gaming in a few years, so would like a full blown HD 1080p, gotta have built in wifi and all the online catch channels would be good. I've seen a few that seem good but would like an expert opinion -
LG 42LB550V
Sony KDL48W585BBU
LG 42ub820b
PANASONIC VIERA TX-50A300B
LG 42LB580V 42" full hd smart led
Any advice anyone could provide, or any other models/makes I should look into would be greatley appreciated.
Thanks
Nilss

You can be sure that all those TVs won't have access to ALL the catchup channels...0

If having all 4 of the major UK terrestrial channel catch-up services is important to you (and assuming your don't have Satellite/Cable/Youview), then I think only Samsung currently has all of them built in out of the box. Some of the newer Panasonics have Freetime, which allows 7 day catch-up on all the main channels, but I don't think the model you mention above has it.
That's not to say Samsung TVs are necessarily better than the above models (and you'd probably have to go above your budget to get a higher spec Samsung bigger than 40 inch), you should if possible go and believe your own eyes and ears, just a pointer on catch-up.0 -
Or get a set top box for the 'smarts'. When it becomes obsolete, you've a box to replace, instead of the entire TV!
YouView if you've an aerial, FreeTime if you've a dish for starters...0 -
Hey mate,
Avoid the Sony for gaming (that particular model). LG is a bit of a mixed bag as they use their badge to rebrand crap makes - that said, some are good. I don't have experience beyond that.
I've just bought the TX-50AS500B which is the 'smart' version of the one you've posted I believe. Other than that they are identical. I'd say that ticks the boxes you've asked for.
Some other users can probably help but I understand there's a few Samsung models around that mark which would be quite good for you also.
[edit]
Just a thought. Have you considered getting a low end model for, say 200-250? I 'needed' a tv for Christmas but if you're in no hurry they are currently dropping like a stone. You may be better off getting a cheap 42 (There's a JVC one on PC World for example) and when you have higher requirements in a few years you can just pay it forward...0 -
I have the same budget but looking for 32" to 40". I've heard Samsung and Sony tend to have best picture quality, but Sony dont seem to do 40", only 32" then 42".0

If you want to put a Sony on your short list and it has to be 40", have a look at the Sony KDL-40W605 (may be listed as 605B) to see if it meets your needs. Haven't seen one myself, but it's had pretty good reviews and is available at £400 or less.0
