O/S Daily Sunday 28th December 2014
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

Morning all. I do get fed up of early morning wakening but it at least gives me chance to browse the internet in peace and potter on with quiet jobs so I don't wake up DH! I have just done a little job I have been promising to do for years. I have at last written out a new Xmas card list! My old list goes back years and I find it sad to see so many names crossed out of friends and family no longer with us. But there are new friends and family members scribbled on to compensate a little.
As intended I cleared out the fridge yesterday. We ate what we could and froze what was freezable!. I also boiled up the turkey carcass, picked off the remaining meat and froze the stock and meat bits to make a broth sometime.
The laundry bin is overflowing so I must do some washing today and also do a quick dust and vac round as it hasn't been done since before Xmas! Tut tut!
Have a good day everybody."If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
Still dark, but looks very cold and frosty.
DH and myself up and enjoying first peaceful cuppas. DS1 and DS2 still in their pits.
Yesterday was a chilled day, I took the boys back to mum’s to take some bits that we meant to take on Boxing Day, but we forgot. So managed to see my bro and sil again, they are going home today.
Lunch yesterday was a clear up of LO’s – and I also got the turkey carcass in my largest saucepan with some veg, so now have another jug of stock in the fridge – I’ll be transferring that to the freezer this morning. Lunch today is going to be sausages, LO Yorkshires, potato dauphnoise, carrots and peas, I also have a jug of gravy already in the fridge, I’ll reheat that for lunch. I’m hoping to get some sausage rolls and mince pies made this morning. I need to iron my work blouses too, then I’m going to chill for the rest of the day – as it’s back to work for me tomorrow until Wednesday lunchtime, then I’m off Thursday and Friday but working Saturday morning.
I take my car to the garage tomorrow before work, so hopefully will get some idea of what's wrong with it by the end of tomorrow.
Have peaceful Sunday’s everyone x
Take care x
Keep safe and well x

Thanks for the kind offers of snow. I'd like it here by lunchtime please, so I can spend the afternoon making a snowman :snow_grin lol
Ah yes, the news channels and the endless reviews of 2014. Annoying. Sky has outdone the others by doing a Year In Preview: 2015. Not only do they report the news, they are now able to predict it. Aren't they clever?
We watched Michael McIntyre's Christmas special on iPlayer – loved it!
I over-estimated how much food we'll eat over the next couple of days so I've put a few more things in the freezer. The fridge is half empty, I might actually clean it now, rather than just tidying it
I was really careful not to create lots of rubbish but the bin was full. I couldn't work out why so I went through it and found some recycling and lots of rubbish from master tru's work – bits of laminate flooring etc. Very annoying.
Right, I'm off to sort my chicken ladies

Good morning.
Well, sunny and dry in Norfolk, and no snow heading apparently.
OH has walked the dog, and I have put Carrot and Honey soup into the slow cooker. Porridge for us for breakfast, and we are off to B and Q (other DIY stores are available) because he doesn't have all the pieces he needs having gone there yesterday, in order to replace my bathroom stage 1.
I however am using the opportunity to detour to Aldi (we live rurally, so the nearest Aldi is about 15 miles) - to get milk powder and UHT milk so that we can make yoghurt in the yoghurt maker I bought OH for Christmas. I don't like normal yoghurt, so I'm hoping I like this one.0 -
Morning all
The fish have been fed, hubby & I have cuppa each, no idea what today's plans are, we were going to see MIL, but she's just phoned to put us off as the rods are treacherous where she is.
DS2 & his GF visited yesterday & I got my first Christmas present. I asked my kids to club together to get me a digital photo frame, DS2 was delegated to buy it, which he did & he wrapped it & promptly took it to Somerset to visit his GF's parents, he was supposed to drop it off before he went. Never mind I have it now & I've loaded pics on it, I've just got to decide where to put it now.
Time I made breakfast.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Morning all! Had a lovely lazy day yesterday. Today we are seeing my Aunt and Grandmother, with my family. Looking forward to seeing them. DH is out for a run and is picking up DS16 on his way back, he was staying at his girlfriends last night.
Better jump in the shower. Then need to freeze the stock I made yesterday and have a quick sweep and hoover round. We are eating out later, but might want some food this evening, there's still lots of cheese, also probably enough bits left for turkey sandwiches. Off to the in-laws tomorrow so no cooking then either!!!0 -
Good Morning everyone, another chilly day here but blue skies and sunshine are making it look beautiful out there. I came downstairs today to a row of birds on the fence all looking hopefully at the back door for food, I fed them and they swooped on it so I think the cold is making them extra hungry. I'm going to start feeding them twice a day while this coldness is here so will put out more after lunch to help them survive the cold nights.
We're having a nice easy day today, DD1 has given me her head cold and I'm feeling very stuffed up and snuffly and achey so lunch will be all the bits and pieces left in the fridge that are open and half used and supper will be a slow cooker casserole 'Piggy in the Orchard' which is pork, apples, celery, onion and herbs cooked in apple juice and just what you need in cold weather.
DD had an 'experience' this morning and when she came back indoors from putting something into the dustbin she said I heard Badger pitter pat across the patio behind me and jump over the doorstep and walk across the kitchen! Badger was our old Border Terrier who lived to 16 years old and we lost him 13 years ago. I often hear him jingle downstairs and come to stand by my armchair, I know it's not Docky as he doesn't wear a collar with a tag on, I love it, luckily so did she!!! He still loves us enough to stay which is so lovely.
Have yourselves a good day everyone and stay warm, Lyn xxx.0 -
Morning, bright morning but very bbrrrrr there is about half an inch of frost on the car windscreen. OH 'forgot' to put the shield on when he cleared the snow yesterday.
No plans really for the day I have put aside some turkey slices, will do some roasties and veg. OH asked for cheese cake last night, DD2 made it. Very rich can only eat a bit at a time.
DD2 bought me an orchid for my birthday last year, it has just come into flower again, only 3 flowers but very pretty.
Hope everyone has a good day. Glad you got your pressie even if it was late Hester.0 -
Morning all,
Very cold and frosty here just been out with food and water for the birds and they were also waiting, they almost look at their wrists as if looking at the time so funny !
Ordered my new laptop yesterday so need to pop out later and collect that, JL had a really good offer on so I got a bargain !
OH is cooking a curry for dinner with left over turkey, any left after that will be frozen for later use, dd will have a quorn curry.
Got my table cloths on a boil wash will hang them on the line today, then they will go away until next Christmas I never use them in between.
Having a really relaxing time its really nice not to have to rush around, I watched Zulu yesterday (brilliant film) and then the Hunger Games which was also fab, might watch another couple later
Have good days all xx0 -
Morning all,
OH will be doing end of year paperwork today, so I will have a kitchen sorting day. I made up some sandwiches out of the remaining Turkey and Gammon (the stuff I didn,t freeze), I will chuck the carcass in the SC with some LO veg to make some stock.
I am determined to get back on the OS wagon for 2015, so need to do a freezer and cupboard audit to have a baseline.
Can't decide between soup and HM bread or Risotto tonight, I think its just the two of usNote to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!
