How to wire an outdoor light

Hi,
I have moved into my new home. There was an outdoor lantern but I have never managed to get it work. I think the light might be broken and I decided to a new one.
However, I am unable to identify which of the wires is live, nature and earth. I also used a voltage tester but only on a few occasions I could see very weak light flashing on the tester (most of the time, no light at all…:-( )
I took a picture of the wires.

Could anybody give me some advice?

best advice i can give you is call an electrician

reading your post you clearly have no knowledge of electrics and in that case the safest thing to do is to leave well alone

I sincerely hope that cable is not live or somebody could get a nasty shock! Have you isolated the supply? The whole thing looks like a complete bodge job and a death trap. Get an electrician in before somebody gets hurt.
