Is it the widow of the will-maker or of the will-writer that wants a copy?
If it's the widow of the writer then she may not be allowed a copy until the will-maker has died.

Yes it is the widow (who is the executor) who wants a copy of the will,

The widow has a death certificate (of the deceased) and proof of ID.

I had to phone the solicitors to make an appointment, telling them the reason. They needed a bit of time to get the will out of storage. I took a death certificate and proof of ID (mine asked for photo proof). It was pretty straight forward, I did probate myself so there was only one meeting.
    I hope this helps.
