PC monitor or TV?

I'm about to treat myself to a decent size monitor about 20-22 inch but I've seen some similar sized tv's for around the same price that double up as a monitor. Now I was under the impression that most people have monitors, but why not go for the TV or am I missing something?

I use a dedicated monitor. But I bought a TV/Monitor for upstairs computer.

    20 - 22 is small these days. 22 - 26 is very common.

TVs will not be suitable displays for gaming, too much 'ghosting' of objects moving on the screen
  • If you can connect using hdmi cable then get a tv so if your main tv goes down then you have a spare tv and if your main tv is a 32 inch then get a new 42 inch tv and use the 32 inch for your computer

Very out of date information. All you need to worry about for gaming is the lag time - that's the time between the TV receiving the picture, and it appearing on screen.
TVs have got a lot better at this, but all these fancy 'image enhancements' that they have (which often don't 'enhance' the image at all) can take a little time to process.
That's why a lot of sets will have a Gaming mode, which simply turns all this stuff off, and spits out the picture as quickly as possible. This will usually be the setting under which the lag time is measured.

Maybe things have changed. I broke my tv by accident, insurance took a while so I bought a replacement TV. When I finally got my new insurance one, I used it as a monitor. It was far too bright and was not good on my eyes, quality wasn't as great either.

You could change the brightness, but in all honesty, I would go for a computer monitor if that is all you think you will be using it for in the future - as it is designed to do exactly what you are wanting to do with it!

Most people who buy a TV don't sit 30cm away from it.

No TV of that size is going to be anywhere near as good as a PC monitor.

I'll second that. Of course if the OP is not doing anything serious with his PC then it won't matter as he won't see the difference. But, if that's the case a large monitor or TV would be a waste anyway.
IMO the PC looks pretty poor in comparison on a TV.
20"-22" would be a very small monitor. Better looking at a good 24" monitor.
