Connecting 3G dongle to Android 4 Tablet.

This is interesting.

He's managed to get a 3G dongle to access the internet, through the mini USB socket, on an Android 4 Tablet.

I wonder if the same could be done, on other non-3G tablets?

Your best bet is get a MIFI unit, some of the dongles only work if your tablet is rooted (Techie stuff).

With a MIFI unit it becomes a wifi hot spot for your tablet, but connects through the phone network using a sim card.

MIFI also has the advantage of no cables for connection so if you are in a poor reception area you could put it by a window or higher to get a better signal.

Out of interest I have not made a dongle be recognised in a HUDL 2, but did with the HUDL 1 but it had to be rooted.

Same question asked a week or two ago ( may have been yourself)
The same answer still applies : a Mi-Fi is the most flexible/simplest option and will work with ANY tablet
Gives you your own wi-f hotspot in your pocket !
  • Thing is, I already use a Dongle on my PC and Laptop, so I could (if it would work) swap it between PC, Laptop and tablet, as and when needed.

So you need to write or find some drivers for your tablet, for that dongle, or hope that someone else has managed it.
  • There are some tablets (albeit not that one) which use Windows.

Wouldn't a Dongle operate on one of them, straight out of the box?

You were talking specifically about an Android 4 tablet. Any device (desktop, laptop, tablet) running Windows and owning a USB port will take a dongle, and will almost certainly have the drivers available to operate it, because the manufacturer of the dongle will have written them. All USB devices need a driver of some sort. Even in Windows, you'll need to install the driver, but at least it exists!
