Parking charge notice

Options
My son parked in a empty permit only car park for 5 minutes & has now received a letter from a Parking control company to say he must pay £100 within 28 days or £60 in 14 days (up tomorrow). The company is a member of IPC.

From the photo they took, it looks like there was a sign about 4 spaces away saying there is 24 hour enforcement, although no sign on the entrance to the car park. I also believe the charge is too high for the 'offence'

I've read quite a lot on various sights & understand they can only enforce if they issue court proceedings. I want to know if my son would incur more charges on top of what they are asking for if it went to court & does anyone have experience of going to court & having the charge reduced or thrown out.

And does anyone have experience of these companies that charge for appealing on your behalf for a very small fee (£5)

court is a lottery, some win, some lose, depends on how good a defence you put up, plus the research you do

most independent appeals services charge about £16 , not £5

But - since you mention it - ''some'' charge just a fiver for first appeal and £10 for POPLA if it was a BPA firm (but IPC may not be worth doing due to the IAS not being seen to be 'independent' in many people's eyes, so in your case the first appeal is probably the only one worth trying, then ignore the PPC except for court papers, which are very rare).

MSE tell me that I am allowed to reply to a post made asking about private parking appeals companies but should state here to Wendy, that I am connected to such a firm. Other posters can no doubt confirm we are trustworthy - but also I would point out, you can DIY which is why I wrote the Newbies thread.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Actually, of the three companies I know of (and I am associated with one of them):-

PTAS charges £16 for the initial appeal and POPLA appeal combined, no matter what the outcome of the initial appeal.

PPA charges £5 for the initial appeal then £10 more to go to POPLA.

And "Beat Your Parking Ticket" charges £14.95 for the book that tells you exactly the same as we do on the forums.

Of course it is too high, even if you were, as I suspect, trespassing on private land. That is why you will not have to pay a cent.

They shoot themselves in the foot every time they ask for silly money, but a lot of people think that these charges are official, and pay up
You never know how far you can go until you go too far.
