Hi please could someone advise me ?
I currently have pre payment meters for gas/electric.my partner went out last night to top our key /card up before doing so he lost his wallet, with card/key and every penny we had in it. We are down to 40p emergency on electric and 90 p on gas emergency. We rang SSE for new card/key to be sent to a local shop (6 miles away.with no car or transport!)
To be told they would send cards but would have to top them up? But we lost all our cash last night including bank cards? Sorry you basically have to freeze until Monday and sit in dark .....really I have a young child here? There's nothing we can do ! .......???? Is there somewhere we can complain to?

Presumably you have friends or family you could borrow from .
How on earth can someone lose their wallet between home and shop ?

To be more concerned about complaining than the welfare of your child is incredible. Personally I'd be complaining ........to your OH for carelessness. Was alcohol involved by any chance ?

You may want to consider whether a prepayment meter is your best option for the future as you don't have a car and apparently live six miles from the nearest shop to avoid this kind of situation. Perhaps hiding an emergency £20 at home somewhere so if he goes out with *all* of your money and cards again you aren't completely stuck.

Yes the timing is unfortunate but you don't really have grounds to complain to anyone because your partner was careless except to them.

  • No family, banks closed until Monday .yes OH was careless. No alcohol involved. He must have pulled wallet out pocket of his coat ...easily done . We live 10 mins from a shop but the shop there sending new card / key to is 6 miles away .

Some banks will help you out if you phone them up. They will give you a code you can enter into a cash machine without using your cards to get some cash.

You did and you got it. Ringing the bank and withdrawing cash from a cash point without the card is very good advice

Surely you must at least have one friend who you can send money to using online/telephone banking and they can withdraw it and give you the money today.

    What advice would you like?

I think that SSE have done all they can do. Many suppliers do not operate local pickup arrangements for spare cards/keys and others charge for replacements. Clearly there will be postal delays so the best option is to go and pick up spare cards if they are available.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
