Central heating and hot water advice

Options
Hi,
I'm a long time reader but first time poster.
I've seen a lot of people helped on here and I hope someone can help me.

A few months ago, I moved into a ground floor maisonette.
The flat has gas central heating with a Valiant Combi Boiler.
The mains water is shared with the flat upstairs.

The problem I'm having is that when the hot water tap is turned on, then the cold water tap is turned on, the pressure of the hot water drops.

Also, when the central heating is turned on, the radiators get hot, but if the washing machine or dishwasher is turned on, the radiators get cold.

Any advice will be much appreciated.

Thanks

The hot water pressure always drops on combo boilers if a cold tap or washing machine turns on

Does the boiler show hot water demand when the washing machine or dishwasher is on ? (Green flashing light on boiler ) should not happen as they are cold fill normally

If hot water is running the boilers will cool down as its one or the other with a combi boiler

  • Thank you for a quick response Browntoa.

I'll have to check if there is a green light but yes, both washing machine and dishwasher are cold feed only.

Is there anything I can do to resolve his issue as I've never had this problem in the previous places I've lived in and had combi boilers.

    Thanks

Look at the front of the boiler , is the pressure meter on the right showing in the green area between 1 and 1.5 bar ?

When the washing machine is on does the boiler show its supplying heat ( constant yellow led ) if it's on or does the washing machine shut it down ?

  • The gauge is in the middle bit which is grey. Either side of it is red. I've got the Mrs to take a PIC of the front of the boiler and send it to me as I'm at work. Unfortunately, I don't know how to post it on here.
  • Also, when the central heating is turned on, the radiators get hot, but if the washing machine or dishwasher is turned on, the radiators get cold.
My radiators will go cold once the room is up to the set temperature regardless of hot water use. They then heat up again when instructed by the thermostat. I believe most boilers prioritise hot water over heating but unless you are running the hot water for extended periods its unlikely to have a noticeable effect on room heating.
  • When I turn the heating on, I set the thermostat to 22°c and the flat never gets that hot nor does the heating trip off.

The boiler may stop producing heat but the pump and fan will continue to run.

Thanks for the link Browntoa but unfortunately, that's not what mine looks like. It's a vailian ecotec with a gauge with no numbers, just gray with red on either side. The needle has to be in the gray area. Unfortunately, as I'm a new member, I cannot post links.

There's a picture of a flame to show that heat is being produced
