Deleting XBox live profile from XBox 360

My son had an xbox 360 and was lucky enough to get an xbox one for xmas. We are giving his xbox 360 to a local hospital and want to make sure all of his stuff is deleted from it first. He has xbox live and has 'transferred' this to his new xbox. He has deleted everything from his old xbox apart from his xbox live profile. We are slightly concerned that if we delete it from the old xbox that it might in some way cancel the whole membership (can you tell that I am the most un techie person in the world?!). I suspect it wont but wanted some re-assurance. Tried to call helpline yesterday but was couldn't get through (had forgotten about the other problems they had been having or I probably wouldn't have bothered trying!!).

I can reassure you that if you delete a profile off the xbox, it simply removes the files off the machine and does not close the account.

If you are still worried, you could move the profile onto a memory stick, rather than deleting it. This essentially deletes the profile off the box but you have a backup copy on a memory stick.
