Hi,
I wonder if anyone has any experience with this, or knows the answer. If not I'll give them a call on Monday.
I applied for the Classic Plus online and have 14 days to produce my documents in branch. It asked me to select a branch during my application to be my branch, so I selected not the nearest but the one I pass most often. It reserved me an account number and sort code, then gave me the 14 days.
My question is, as I'm unlikely to be passing the above branch in the time limit, could I go to the nearest branch, even though the sort code reserved for me is under the other branch? Or will I need to make a special trip?
I know you can use any branch day to day but I just wondered if it worked differently re: account opening.
Thanks

Yes you can use any branch for identification and verification collection.
Did you put 'student' for occupation out of interest? It seems to throw up the refer to branch for students regardless of whether it can electronically ID you. I know someone who is a student with a job and if they put student it refers them to branch but if they put in their employment details it opens the account on the spot. Very strange.0 -

Yep. It is strange, maybe the system isn't programmed to detect that someone isn't applying for a student account (in which case they would need proof of student status, as most give fee free overdrafts to students.)0 -
I got asked for ID for a Classic Plus account. Never been asked for ID for any other credit account.
Weirdly, when I took ID in to open the account, instead of continuing with the application, he just went through a completely new one, which was odd.Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. It's an arbitrary number that means nothing when it comes to applying for credit.

Sound as though the pressure on staff to sell hasn't been removed.0 -
I wouldn't be surprised if they try to sell me a student account while I'm there to show my ID then!
Thanks all for the responses.
If you're feeling cheeky, you could always try for both, and then transfer the free overdraft over to the classic plus and earn 5% on it... Santander are currently paying me 3% on £1500 they lend me for nothing!0 -
I opened an account recently and just went into the one near my work with ID.
I did have to make her phone the number on the letter to complete the application. All that glitters is not gold.0 -
Went in with my ID today, was in and out in a few minutes. I asked if there was any print out confirmation, he said no and I asked do they email you? He said they do, so I'm presumably waiting for a "your account is now open." No thanks for bringing your ID, so fingers crossed they don't mess up and expect it bringing in again!
How long is it usually between ID and the account being opened?0 -

In my experience, a few working days. You'll get an email from with the subject "Your current account application was successful" (if it is successful).0
