if the rj11 socket was broken off of the motherboard or missing would it still work or would it affect the whole motherboard, a long shot,but im dim

i had a motherboard with a video socket broke but it still worked when i used a video pci card, so theres a chance that a rj11 have the same effect, hope it helps0

thanks majorR,i hope so as i need a new motherboard and i have found this one ,its cheap but its in the states just dont want to waste anymore money on broken pc parts i think i can fix AND CANT...0

RJ11 is a US telephone connector so you will have little use for it in the UK anyway. I havnt seen many mother boards with built in modems I would get the guy to configm its the RJ11 port and not the RJ45 which is the network port.
If the damage is just to the port and no pins or tracks have been dammaged on the board or wors the pat of the board it was connected to has been broken then it should be fine, if there has been dammage to the board as a result then I wouldnt be so sure.
You can always just disable any onboard features in the BIOS anyway0 -

!!!!!!, your the person buying a motherbaord for the hp laptop. that explains it why there is a modem built in. I shouldnt post just after getting back from an Actic Monkeys concert, if the modem/connectoris a seperate peice of baord it is possible I will hut the dissasembly guide out this evening again and see if it is, you will be able to use the part from your old board.0

i have been told the rj-45 has broken off but there seems no damage to the board ,should i risk it ,i have asked for a photo of the offending piece but what should i be looking for in the way of damage etc...0
