This company really shouldn't be in business. Changed from Oct 15 to Jan 16 fix and I am nearly £300 in credit. Monthly DD was increased from £30 to £94 even though I am in credit and the new tariff should mean I'm paying less. I send regular meter readings, so no estimates. Sent an email to a muppet in India who says it will take 30 days to rectify. I tried to change the DD online. Told I needed to submit a meter reading first, which I did. Still can't change the DD.
I have never used anything like £94's worth of energy in a month!
They really can't get anything right.

Surprised it took you so long to find out. I discovered this in 2004 and despite being taken over by a Spanish outfit, nothing has improved. You'll find their 'systems' do not gave any ability to look at the bigger picture - only the function being accessed.
That said, you invited trouble by passing the responsibility for control of payments to them. This is never a good idea and to let them play around with your money and let a credit balance greater than your next bill accrue is never a good idea. Get your overpayments back, and go for actual billing, where you pay only for what you use - nothing more.0 -
It's quite strange, Scottish Power seems to be getting nicer.
On switching to January 2016 fix, they dropped my monthly DD to £75 dual fuel, when a steady state amount should be £110, given the unit rates. This means they are actually allowing for the running down of the £300 surplus.
I must say that they seem to be one of the best in reacting to the crude oil price changes. I have switched tariff three times in the last five months.0
