We have one of these that is five years old and still working brilliantly. We currently use a Panasonic dvd recorder with it but would like more options for recording.

As it seems nigh impossible now to buy a unit that records discs, do you think it would be feasible to purchase another dvd recorder and run it off the one TV?

I have seen this today at Argos and wonder if it would work on our five year old TV, to basically not only enable two hard drive recorders, but also to make it a smart TV?

Is this possible?

Thanks:)

P.S. Would also like to connect to Netflix.

Your TV has three HDMI sockets so no problem adding another box.

DVD recorders are still wildly available, check Amazon etc.

If you look at the FAQ for the Hitachi, ITV player is not available, only BBC player mentioned. For £10 a NowTv box will give you all the main players. As for the box itself I would suggest a Panasonic or BT or Humax (later two both made by Humax) would be a better purchase. Also check out the Humax website for managers specials.

Thanks for your advice, the Hitachi doesn't sound as if it would suit.

So it is possible to transform a pretty old non-HD television into a Smart TV then? That would be excellent and to also be able to run two dvd recorders as well would be even better. Will have a look at the ones suggest - thanks again.

Have just found this one which may be better, would it work alongside our existing dvd recorder and make the TV smart? (and enable Netflix access?)

    Thanks.

For what you want you are probably best to get a You View hard disk recorder as that will do all the catchup TV services (iPlayer, ITV player, 4OD/Demand 4 and Demand 5. Plus Netfilix is now / shortly will be available http://www.youview.com/news/2014/11/04/netflix-now-on-youview/

Panasonic products won't do all of those... only iPlayer and Netflix. Panasonic pretty much never add other features by updates (I know I have Panasonic kit). NB The 230 1TB is a very similar price from John Lewis and Richer Sounds, where you might get to see it in the flesh and/or working? Read the reviews though as it appears you can't record AND watch Netflix at the same time... which makes a separate box for some of these smart features a more sensible proposition?
