Sick leave running into public & scheduled holiday time

If I was your employer I would be querying the 'sickness period' and your travel to Ireland...if you were due to work Christmas Eve how were you expecting to spend Christmas in Ireland?...0
-
Put the travelling to Ireland aside, it's not relevant. My employer is/was fully aware of my intention to travel, and if I worked Christmas eve, there were sufficient arrangements in place to enable me to make my flight. There will be no queries from my employer in relation to this. He knows I will be in Ireland.0

It's very relevant!
It could look very suspicious that you were ill but still able to travel abroad.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

It's not in my case - as my employer was aware I was always going to be travelling to Ireland - regardless of whether I was fit for work, or not.0 -

I'm not sure if you're just naive or hopeful.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

So you made your employer aware ahead of the event that you were definitely going to Ireland for Christmas however unfit you were? Not something I've ever done - pre-empting being sick but still travelling.0 -
Not sure if its actually possible to travel when you have flu...Please do not quote spam as this enables it to 'live on' once the spam post is removed.

If you quote me, don't forget the capital 'M'

You started in this job very recently and are already on sick leave (which of course can happen) and, more importantly, trying to swap holidays for sick leaves while travelling to Ireland...
I can't predict a great career for you at that company.0 -
I was under the impression a fit note was only required for 7 days or more, however my employer requested one.
This is the key point. Your employer asked you for one and it is worth keeping them happy. My employer's sickness policy says that self certification will usually be accepted for up to 7 days, but they may ask for a note and mention one of the times they are likely (or always, I can't remember which) to do this is if the sickness is immediately before or after holiday to reduce their fear of people using sickness to extend the holiday. But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.
