it seems to me that you are both guilty of being inefficient/ amateurish and you are now somewhat over dramatising the situation

you admit yourself it was a mistake not to get a receipt or anything in writing yet you are now accusing him of being a thief on the basis that in the lead up to Christmas he cannot be bothered to go and get a measurement for you and has not responded to everything you asked about

there seems little point in idle speculation about whether he will or won't sue for breach of agreement and similarly whether you have grounds to back out yourself. If you don't want the place then back out and take the consequences, if you do then continue with your efforts to contact him, if you are really bothered then go there and sort it out face to face

I said at the start I wasn't bothered about the deposit and I already passed judgement on myself so your attitude is unhelpful.
We are where we are and I was looking for opinions on the way forward.

Looking at your other posts it does seem as if you have 'form'. I don't go in for name calling but I'm tempted to put the poster who called you an *rse on my Christmas card list for next year. :D
It must be tricky keeping that superiority complex in check. Or maybe it's great being so perfect.
    Clearly I wouldn't know.

I have no idea which poster this is directed at (myself?) and certainly have no intention of searching back-posts for the *rse comment), but responding like this to people who offer opinions which you've requested does little to endear you, or encourage further responses.
  • I realise that it will be a complete pain in the neck, but if I were in your position I'd get in my car and do the whole long motorway journey (taking a tape measure with me!).

At least that way you will know exactly where you stand, and however time-consuming it is, it will be far less hassle than arriving there with a vanload of furniture and nowhere else to stay, only to discover that there's a major problem.

    " After viewing I realised I needed "
Do you really NEED to know the size of the space for a fridge freezer?
    REALLY?
You have a contract and should move in on the 8th of Jan
Email the landlord and may sure he will be there to hand over the keys and show you where the stop tap is, gas meter/ electric meter ( take photos of meter readings). How to use the central heating, etc

Fair point but this is about more than measurement of a space - it's about a concerning failure to communicate. That said I have a dog with special diet needs due to a liver condition and I need refrigeration for food from the off. This place is out in the sticks and to start with I won't have a phone/internet connection. So it's important that I am set up with the basics at the start.
I think a previous poster was right and the only way to tackle these concerns is to bite the bullet and head on up there again prior to a move.

Get a friend to phone up and try to arrange a viewing. What the LL says in response will give you more info on whether he is trying to 'play' you.

I hadn't thought about this. An excellent idea! :T
Also me saying I need to visit to finalise things prior to the move might also have an interesting response.
