Athlon64 3400 overheating

How'd

Having problems with my desktop overheating. I've tried adding fans and rerouting cables but to no avail. Sat watching the hardware read outs in the bios and the temp creeps up to 75c.

Is is worth replacing the heatsink with an aftermarket jobbie?

I'm not sure to be honest. As I don't have any thermal paste handy would it hurt to remove it and reseat it?

I'm taking the value from the bios.

Usually near constant crashing when under load from Cad software/games. The MB temp rises roughly in line with the CPU IIRC, reaching about 38c (?) but it seems to have gotten worse since I started fiddling today.

I've no idea if the bios is upto date
