debenhams unwanted gift return?

Hi, I have a pair of jeans as a gift that I would like to return to debenhams. I don't have the receipt and would not like to ask my aunt for it! The label on the jeans says £40 but the jeans are on sale for £28, if in return the item what will I get? Anyone know? Will it be exchange or gift card and how much for?

Best thing for you to do is tell your aunt they do not fit and ask her if she could return them for you.
If not and she bought them online she could give you the order number. I think she would prefer you had a present at £40 you liked or fitted into. You will only get the £28 on a gift card or refund receipt, they have no obligation to give you full price unless you have a receipt.

They have no obligation at all to the OP unless they have a gift receipt

Without a receipt or gift receipt it you will be unlikely to get anything other than an exchange at the current selling price. They dont usually give gift cards without a receipt.

    from the Debenhams website:
    http://www.debenhams.com/wcsstore/DebenhamsUKSite/faq/our_stores/returns.html

Can I return an item without a receipt

Yes you can, however you will only be able to exchange your item for other products (exclusions apply)
Please note: Without a receipt a product can only be exchanged in store.

I would think an important rider to that is only if they can positively identify it it as an item that was sold by Debenhams and not one that may have been purchased elsewhere E.G. a common brand/model that is available in other shops.

At this time of year I find most shops fairly lax with the exchange policy and they do apply some decent common sense, especially on smaller ticket items at £40
