  • I think that your panic attack may have been your subconscious mind telling you that you didn't want to go! I know you did want to in one way, but knowing you couldn't really afford it was probably on your mind.

I wouldn't feel guilty. If you can't afford it then you can't afford it, end of story.

My oh and I missed his brother's wedding in Singapore because we couldn't afford it. I really wanted to go, but it would have had to be be paid for on a credit card, we were already in debt, had 2 toddlers, and we felt it would have been irresponsible to go.

The needs of our immediate family (ie ourselves and the children) had to take priority. So although I regretted that we couldn't go, I didn't feel guilty.

Will your parents get the money back for your airfare? That's the thing that would make me feel most guilty.

  • Southernscouser i did really want to go to the wedding. I had a year to save up for it and boy did i try, but where in just so much debt it wasn't working. I admitted to my parents (which was very hard) about our debt troubles and that i couldn't afford it. That's when they offered to pay for my airfare, as long as i could take spending money, which seemed possible.

Its now too short to get £1300, as the wedding is the 25th of August and with flying all that way, that is why i booked my flight for the 27th July - 30th August, so id get the most out of it. No way what so ever, i can find that sort of money from selling stuff in my house. I have no savings either.

I tend to agree with people saying, i didn't really want to go in terms of knowing deep down i couldn't afford it. I wasn't excited about flying out, like i thought i would of been. I haven't been back home to Australia in 3 years and i just didn't have that 'buzz' about it, i thought the closer it got to flying out, i would and now i think it was down to the fact that i knew when i came back, we'd be struggling for money and it would be 'my' fault for making myself and my fiancee is a worse position than where already in.

Sammz, my parents have so far got back the taxes from the airfare, i will be using my travel insurance to claim back as much money for them as i can. Getting a doctors certificate to back up my case of my panic attack. Fingers crossed travel insurance pays up, if not i will do all i can to pay them back the money they kindly spent on. I haven't spoken to them since it all happened, because i am too ashamed to speak and far too nerrvous to hear the disappointment in their voices at me.

They have a lot of stuff to deal with because of me, 1 daughther who is devasted her sister won't be in her wedding and me the other daughter who has let them down dramatically.
