Samsung S4 - screen broken - how to wipe?

My son dropped his Samsung S4 and has broken the LCD screen. He is going to list it as "spares or repair" on ebay and just get a replacement phone.
Is it possible to wipe the phone? If he connects it currently to a laptop its expecting the phone to be "unlocked" which he cant currently do because of the broken screen?

Does ADM not have to already be on the phone? This page suggests yes.0
