  • Typical big business making millions from loyal customers. No loyalty or compassion towards their customers.
    Avoid these parasites.
Good post, let's name and shame these despicable scumbags.

Yes quite, shame on them for not honouring a 7 year old gift card that could have come from anywhere...

I heard a very surprising story about him today. It concerned a lot of M&S food orders that got lost in transit and he personally went to every shop in the area (with his entourage) to try and piece together all the items individually and personally fulfilled every order in time for Xmas collection.

As I understand it, he got in his car from London within 30 minutes of hearing about the problem. That's service

No, that's a good PR team. It's amazing what a few well placed rumours can do!

I'm assuming you found them with the receipts? Theres also every possibility that she used them up?

I assume in 2007 she had most faculties as no one had power of attorney/was watching her finances. As soon as my Grandad showed signs of dementia he was watched very closely, and he definitely wasn't able to stay in his home for another 7 years, even with close care.
  • Unless you can demonstrate that at the time of purchase (or very shortly thereafter) she was unable to understand the implications of not using them, there is very little they should do. If she had purchased a pair of shoes and left them in the bag for seven years would you expect them to refund the original purchase price?

She made a purchase and failed to utilise the service. It is not their fault, and they have no legal or moral obligation to return the money.

If you still have the M&S gift vouchers then it's a safe bet they haven't "come from anywhere" & that they have not "been used up".

I'm with TBeckett100, email Marc Bolland (you can Google his email address) & express how disappointed you are with their current decision. What have you got to lose.

Also, stick a comment on the M&S Facebook page with a link to this forum. Again, nothing to lose.

I succeeded where all else had failed by not falling at the first hurdle with Dulux paint, Barclays Bank & Virgin mobile. When they all realised they were getting a public forum mauling they FINALLY did the right thing.....which is what it's about.

Yes, the vouchers are way out of date & should have been used. But a little common sense compassion goes a long way as far as customer service goes. Even if they had replaced HALF the value in current vouchers (on receipt of the old vouchers), that would have been a nice gesture.....but profit is King nowadays!

PS If any MSE user can tell me why I keep getting double line spacing between para's, it looks & should be single line spacing but when I hit 'post quick reply' it views as double. I have to keep going back in to edit & tidy it up!
Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.

As far as the companies go, they've had a 7 year interest free loan.
The risk with gift cards is if the company goes under; you're at the back of the queue for getting any money back.

Most gift cards I've found have 18-24 months before expiry, I could understand if it was over by a couple of months maybe but to expect them to refund after 7 years is a bit unrealistic really!

And if they did it for you then they would have to do it for everyone who came along with a sob story.
