Think I have been scammed

I bought a ‘Buy It Now’ Tesco gift card at a good price on the 17th Dec. 100% seller (49). He emailed and said that the card was being sent by courier and should have arrived yesterday (Monday). It didn’t. This morning I got a PayPal refund of the full amount, although as a refund I can’t access it until 5th Jam. The email said he was refunding as there were problems with the courier. I immediately went back via eBay and said I didn’t want a refund as it wasn’t for Xmas. He replied apologising and saying he will relist.

Now I’ve just looked on his feedback and someone posted a Negative this morning saying that basically he had been used as a cheap lender and the guy never had the gift card to sell.

I have my money back (although not available for 2 weeks). What should I do? I am currently waiting for the guy to sort it out but am realising that I have been naive. Should I just post a negative now and put it down to experience? Should I report him to eBay?

Not sure what to do, been on eBay for 14 years and never had anything like this happen to me.

Any advice much appreciated.

You don't need to do anything really, wait for your refund to clear - if it doesn't then come back and ask for more advice.

It is completely up to you when and if you leave feedback, if you want to leave a neg then word it carefully, don't make accusations just state the facts.

Unfortunately this is the time of year that people do the eBay loan scam, it is cheaper than a pay day loan

Thanks. I just feel annoyed that someone can do this. I've never needed to leave a neg before, but as there is already one there I can use that as a base.

I really want to escalate it with eBay as its just so mean. Am I over reacting??

If you have a refund pending then you have nothing to escalate, do keep an eye on the refund though in case it bounces.

Ahhh hadn't even thought of that!!

    Thanks for your reply though.
  • As Soolin said, be very careful how you word your feedback. If you say something like "didn't sell, item didn't exist, used my money as a cheap loan", the seller will be able to get it removed as it's an unproven allegation.

Keep it boring - "never received item, took xx days for refund" - and they'll be stuck with it.
