    Hi ladies

I'm glad to hear that the weight loss seems to be going well across the board! I hit 10% last week so now I need to decide on a goal weight which I'm going to set at 10st. I weigh in KG at home so that's 9.8kg to go. Once I get there, I'll start looking at body fat percentage and decide whether I have any more to lose.

Had to go to the dentist this morning - need a filling in a back tooth. Not at all surprised as my back teeth are compromised from childhood illness when they were developing and there has been a bit of sensitivity recently. I got a price for the near-front filling I want replacing in white - £88 private (only option) so decided to get both done at once. Really pleased actually because that's booked for next month so it'll be done before the ball in November and my goal weight photo shoot. :)

On the makeup front, can anybody tell me the point of finishing powder and whether it's a worthwhile addition? I use primer, tinted moisturiser, mineral powder, blusher.

DD, I used a chart like this
    http://www.nhs.uk/livewell/loseweight/pages/height-weight-chart.aspx

and my target weight is bang in the middle of the healthy range for my height. It's a weight that suits me too as I think I could look scrawny if I was too much lower.

I can't really answer your question about the powder. I think it used to be used to 'set' foundation and give a matt rather than an oily finish. I'm not sure that's needed now. Why don't you ask at a make up counter and get them to show you before/after. I find them pretty knowledgeable and not too pushy.
  • Long and exhausting day - but I feel satisfied that I did my job well.

I had to pick up some things for the boss, and afterwards I wondered round the shops to look at the autumn styles coming in. I have a fair amount of clothes but I've lost a bit of weight so some fit and some don't and I am hopeless at putting them together well. I actually get ideas from mannequins in shop windows! I need to figure out some outfits for when I hopefully find another job.

Not sure if everyone already saw this video, but someone posted it on my facebook page and I thought it was very poignant ...relax, breathe, and let go https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ltVPj6-5xpo
No buying unnecessary toiletries 2014. Epiphany on 4/4/14 - went into shop to buy 2 items, walked out with 17!

    Hi everyone,

dd 265 I think a finishing powder helps set make up and blur fine lines. I think celebs often use it if they are being photographed, but if it's not blended properly, you can see it in photos. I'm no expert, but given what you already use, I'm not sure a finishing powder will add anything - but then I always go for a less is more approach when it comes to make up, so I'm sure others may disagree with me.

shandy I love the video too. I'm always thinking about the next 'thing' and I should try and enjoy the moment.

I had my 'me' day today. OH ended up not working and I was kind of looking forward to having a day to myself. He said he'd get out of my way if I wanted. We compromised, so he dropped me to town and came back a few hours later and we met for lunch, which was nice.

I was going to visit an English heritage site, but I realised I had too much running around (visiting about 7 shops all with 1 thing to buy in each place). I always try to do too much, so I thought I'd try a slide pace.

I wore my birthday to, which I realised isn't something I should wear when I have the children with me as its easily marked. I wore my new shoes, nice coat and bag, so I feel really good.

In terms of frugality, I earned £5 today by taking part in some market research, so that's going towards a lipstick I've been eyeing up.

Then it was off to the Chinese supermarket to buy some miso soup to take to work as its cheaper there than in the main supermarkets. I also bought some super noodles to try, which haven't been fried so are lower in fat.

Off to pick up the children now.
  • Hi ladies:)
Just about to catch up on the posts before getting some sleep; feeling tired and I've picked up quite a bad sore throat so an early night is needed!
It's too early for me to tell if I'll like the new job yet as the first couple of months are to be spent in a training room with the nine other new entrants (a big intake as company wants to expand one of its departments)learning the ropes.
Apart from the trainer, everyone else is at least 20 years younger than me! This is fine, but for the first time I'm experiencing the "invisible middle aged woman" syndrome!:D, as apart from one or two of them, they have absolutely no interest in speaking to me at all!
Don't get me wrong, they're all very nice; they're just naturally gravitating towards those of the same age groups and interests, as a result though they're often completely ignoring me, despite my best efforts to engage with them:D
I'm sure it will be different when we enter the main office, where there's a mix of people and age groups and you don't all head to lunch at the same time, so it's not so obvious that everyone has rushed off together and you've been left alone :rotfl::rotfl:
And the positive side: make up, perfume and smart casual clothes have been worn all week, which can only be a good thing:)

Wow! That's a long training period ellsbel. It must be difficult with so few youngsters prepared to talk with you. It doesn't really say much for their people skills so hopefully it's a task based job! All you can do is keep smiling (literally) and hope some remember their manners at least.

Good for you making yourself look fab. Sorry to hear about the bad throat, soon be the weekend;).
  • I'm going back home to visit my mum tomorrow after work, and we're also going on a two day spa break, so I'm really excited about that! I gave myself a gel manicure last night in preparation (hopefully it will last the week, I'm still getting the hang of it!) and am getting my hair cut after work today. Hate getting my hair cut, and I'm ok with the length it is at the moment, but I have leads of split ends so it's for the best. I'm a bridesmaid for my friend in just over two weeks so it would be nice if my hair was looking a bit healthier!
    No more goo hoarding!

  • Good morning everyone

Just having a break from dads paperwork - hopefully this is the last lot.

It's a lovely day so I want to,get out and finish a few exterior jobs this afternoon. Need to finish some painting whilst the weather is settled.

Ellsbell - sorry to hear that you are suffering from invisible Woman Syndrome.

I'm going to say something now that might be a bit controversial.......

I think that a Lot of younger people really lack social skills. I appreciate that in a lot of cases it's down to,shyness and lack of life experience. But honestly I do think that social media has a lot to answer for.

Walk down any street, cafe or public place like a railway station and just watch how many young people are glued to their mobiles. I see them walking along, head down, bumping Into to people and objects, and even just stepping out into the road into oncoming traffic without raising their eyes.

I have even seen young couples in restaurants - both checking their mobiles and texting other people and Not talking to each other......lol. what's that about.......

I just think young people are losing the ability to communicate face to face.

I had to remonstrate with my boys When they were younger. I banned all mobile devices at the dinner table. My husband and I would not answer the landline, we let it go to answerphone.

Personally I think it's the height of bad manners to be texting someone else when you are supposed to talking to someone but there you ago, perhaps im just being old fashioned.

As for your new work colleagues, it does seem rather rude to Ignore you. I wonder how they would feel if it was one of them that was out numbered. I don't think a group of older ladies would "freeze out" a younger person in quite the same way.
